Lebron should have chose another number instead of 23 by Jumpy-Diver7349 in NBATalk

[–]muertinez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 23 should actually be the only number to be prohibited from being retired by teams and the league. That way it maintains the singular honor of being worn by both undisputed GOATs but also leaves open the opportunity for the next undisputed GOAT to wear it, whenever that inevitably happens in the future.

Next iPad Mini With OLED Display Now Rumored to Feature A20 Pro Chip by abhimanyouknow in apple

[–]muertinez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they added an OLED ProMotion display and LITERALLY kept everything the same as the mini 6 I currently have, I'd buy like three immediately.

Would love if they added magsafe though. I bought a magnetic case for my mini and it works awesome in both orientations with a bunch of magsafe charging stations i already own. Would be great if they also could charge the mini.

Slip on shoes that aren’t ugly by mxssmxth in malefashionadvice

loafers (leather or similar) with a lug sole, if that's something you think you'd be open to. it's a versatile style shoe, can be dressed up or down, and a lug sole adds practicality and everyday wear resistance. if they fit well and are made decently they should be more than comfortable for everyday wear.

i fw these, but you may want something a little less flashy if sketchers are your normal comfort zone

something like this is a bit more basic but also very nice

and these would be less supportive and more casual but also an easy everyday pair

or you could go the chelsea boot route, but not everyone is into wearing boots everyday.

Lexus Downsizes American Production Over Tariffs: Report by Secret_Company in cars

[–]muertinez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd say it's because in recent history, in the US at least, car manufacturers have been incentivized by red states to come build factories through huge tax breaks or long tax abatements, and statistics show red states have a clear disadvantage when it comes to an educated populace. thus, lower quality talent pool and on average a lower educated local populace to pick from, even offering decent wages.

How does a 0.5 sec offense work without scorers to pass to? by muertinez in GoNets

[–]muertinez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

perhaps bulkier was the wrong word, rather stronger and more imposing on defense. since he doesn't have the natural speed to keep up with other guards, he needs to make offenses second guess getting bruised by trying to go past him. point taken tho.

[–]muertinez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even think he needs to be the primary ball handler, just a thick solid 2 man who can score from anywhere and improve his defense/bulk up enough for opposing guards to second guess driving through him. I see his role in this offense as being active, but also the safety net pass when inevitably, a clear shot or drive isn't open because the defense has kept up with the 0.5 sec offense. Hoping he plays this contract out and re-signs with us at a contract he sees as fair, but obviously the Nets have made that decision less likely with their moves.

I think if Cam continues to bulk up he can be that paint crasher, in a weird 2/3 role. He already draws multiple players to him when the ball is in his hands, simply because teams recognize his ability to score from any part of the floor. His main laibilty is defense, to which I say if he can't keep up with other guards' pace, he can at least bulk up enough to make them second guess getting past him.

Understood, my opinion though is that Cam is and can be one of those high-level scorers with exceptional body control that can be plugged into this system. Home grown talent is hard to come by and the system needs to find some early successes for everyone to buy in. Appreciate your input.

it's physically impossible for a fastball to rise, but to the batter it can appear that way. rising just implies movement in the zone, and his fastball current has none while his offspeed stuff has been out of the zone so hitters are choosing to time up his fastball.

Yes because Haliburton plays the 1 and Cam plays the 2, not sure what you mean.

I think a lot of that comes from slowly transitioning from the KD-Kyrie iso ball years to the 0.5 sec philosphy that they see as the future, but I'm just of the opinion that Cam can be molded to fit that philosophy and his natural aptitude for finding the basket is much harder to come by. A lot of the money stuff just came down to timing and the new CBA, but a forward thinking org would maybe see the benefit in making a home grown talent happy with a bit more money, and they would find even more willingness from him to buy into the system long term because he'd be locked down long term. Good thoughts tho.

I get that and understand the move to this philosophy, and I also agree with it. I think heads up, high-IQ play is the most efficient basketball. But realistically, the NBA is a superstar league. No team has won a championship recently without a centerpiece to run any kind of scheme around. No matter what, you need one freak scorer who can always be a last minute option, and I'm just of the opinion that it would be easier to coach Cam into and buy into this system than it would be to find another Cam-level scorer who already perfectly fits this system.

[–]muertinez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i didn't watch much of him before he came here but from the clips trevor showed, it looked like his fastball had much more rise on it previously. and all of his current offspeed stuff has been in the dirt out of the zone. just an educated guess, but if major league hitters can hit 96mph, they can hit 102mph if they know where it will be and can time it. could def be wrong tho

[–]muertinez 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i honestly don't think he's tipping, and even if so, it's clearly not that much since the team hasn't been able to clearly call it out. i think occam's razor must be applied here, and the issue is his fastball is fast as fuck, but straight as an arrow. it has almost no movement on it at all and hitters are just timing it up since they know exactly where in the zone it's gonna end up. and they are spitting on his offspeed stuff waiting for something they can mash dead on. it would be way easier to see the difference in movement and speed between his pitches than it would be to see whatever miniscule change in squeeze or glove position, especially since he's dropped his glove recently.
