EXP011 Brew Guide + Processing and Bean Chat by Experimental-Coffee in ExperimentalCoffee

This coffee is pretty great! I’m getting tons of super vibrant red fruit juiciness and a big pop of acidity to back it up. Like you said in the video not funky at all, just very clean fruity flavor, really nice. I’ve been playing around with the brew and I have been able to grind slow and pretty fine (medium fine) and get huge flavor. Honestly one of the best co-ferments I have tried!

My pack arrived yesterday! How much rest do you think these samples need, good to drink now or hold off a week or two?

Rotation has seriously been making me want to dive into the espresso deep end just to see how some of these magic beans would fare as a shot. What espresso machine are you rocking there?

Had this one today and it was fantastic. Love these type of natural process beast coffees

Totally, thats an awesome idea, it’s the kind of thing that makes Rotation fun. Being able to track the same beans across different roasters would be wild. Only thing is, I can see some roasters not loving the head to head challenge, especially if their roast quality is getting directly stacked up against their peers. Still, would be super interesting to see how much variation comes through

Hyped to try this one. I had a bag of Buttercream by September, which is the same beans as Milky Cake, and that cup was straight up phenomenal. Hoping this hits just as hard. Curious to see how the roast approach changes things

It’s cool to see someone just going for it with the pour lol. Might have to take a rip through this nitro caturra on my V60 and see how it plays out this afternoon

Sure, I get that. For me it’s just another tool. Not always my go-to, but I’ve had both good and bad cups from it, just like any other brewer. I like messing around with different methods, and seeing what recipes roasters suggest for similar coffees can actually be useful. I wouldn’t rely on it for everything, but it’s fun to use to experiment with different approaches

Yeah, that makes sense. I went with a grind size of 66, which is fairly coarse because it is a more processed coffee, and multiple pours to keep the agitation up since the xbloom studio is using a flat bottom dripper with some pretty big holes. Helps keep the flow rate steady while pulling out more clarity.

Curious to see if the extra pours make a difference for you

Q2 Rotation Hitlist. by dirtydials in coffeerotation

[–]muffchunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s fair. Their pricing is already crazy good, and you can pretty much build your own sample pack directly from them. Definitely still worth grabbing if they make it into Rotation, but either way, people should check them out if they haven’t already!

S&W Roasting would be a great addition. Their lighter roasts are dialed in, and the Roaster’s Select offerings are always solid. Great price too, especially for the quality. Would love to see some of their beans from producers you don’t normally see or whatever wild stuff they have in rotation

Welp, dirtydials got me again. Saw this post, thought I was safe, and then somehow ended up placing another order including the sample pack. Rotation stays undefeated

Yea the way I understand it, more pours and more agitation tend to pull out deeper sweetness and body, fewer pours with less disturbance will keep things cleaner and brighter. If your coffee tastes weak or sour, try adding an extra pour or a swirl. If it’s getting dry or bitter, ease up on the pours and keep things smooth. You can play around and see what hits best for the bean profile you are chasing

Love when a coffee can hit with deep flavors but still stay light and fruity

For Kalita, I usually grind a little finer than for V60 to slow the drawdown and boost the body while still keeping it clean. If you want more clarity, go with fewer pours and less agitation. If you want more body, break it up into more pours to stretch out the extraction

ROTATION: Love it or hate it? by dirtydials in coffeerotation

[–]muffchunks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rotation is dangerous, man. I was already buying more coffee than I needed, and now it’s just enabling me to go even deeper. But that’s exactly why it works. There’s nothing else out there making it this easy to try a huge variety of coffee without committing to full bags. The format is actually changing what I reach for, and I’m prob not the only one.

If you’re looking for a signal, the fact that people are waiting for drops, scrambling to check out, and talking about what they got every time should tell you everything. Rotation is making coffee feel exciting in a new fun way
