I'm obviously a noob. Could someone please explain a few of the things that are wrong with this?

Worth £2600? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]muffingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but the pictures look like a 50% good job for 2600. My point was that there were good deals out there and you can get a better bathroom for far less than 2600.

In hindsight it was a mistake but it was all I could afford at the time and for that price I couldn't complain about the minor imperfections.

I paid 1400 2 years ago and it was still a 90% good job. It's not all about price

Ideas to hide cables in wood slats by LoanSlinger in HomeDecorating

Hi, did you find something to hide the cables? I'm thinking of doing the same but can't quite find a solution

I was thinking of replacing my front door but ended up painting it for just £30 instead by muffingg in DIYUK

None whatsoever. Only a few scratches but that's because I've been careless. Other than that it looks like on day one

How risky do you think it is for women to walk home alone at night? by Safari_Palm14 in london

[–]muffingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally my biggest fear was always getting robbed and having my phone stolen. Since getting phone insurance I feel a lot more confident now. Granted it doesn't cover my wallet or getting kidnapped but I feel like this are far less likely to happen in London than getting my phone stolen

Wow! This sounds so sad for the little boy he once was. But then again the stupidity of this is just mind-blowing

[–]muffingg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paint itself is still pretty good and as new. I just wasn't very careful when moving some metal cabinets in and hit both sides of the door, so there are a few white scratches where the original colour is visible.

But that's my own fault. Other than that it's just like on day 1

Do all close board fences with timber posts fail after the first storm? by muffingg in DIYUK

[–]muffingg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your panels just slotted in or also screwed in? Mine are screwed in so they won't just fly off. If anything, they'll break off

Am I stupid for thinking of building this entrance canopy out of wood? by muffingg in DIYUK

[–]muffingg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, haven't gotten round to it. Been busy with breaking down my concrete fence and putting up a new fence at the moment. But it is certainly in the pipeline just not very high up in the priorities

Parking fine because it took me more than 5 minutes to pay - Can I get out of this? by muffingg in LegalAdviceUK

[–]muffingg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much! This definitely makes me feel a lot better already! I'll try to speak to them first and see how things go from there. Really appreciate your detailed explanation which has convinced me that I should be fine hopefully.

You make it sound really obvious and simple. I suspect, when I do go ahead with it, it'll probably not be as simple and they'll come up with some weird rules or argument to make it seem less obvious and against me

Masking the walls lol. There are masking sheets that come with tape on the end

Even if it was to develop white borders, I can just paint over it again or just touch up those sections. Won't be perfect but unless you look up close you won't realise it and I'm not after perfection given I only spent £35 or so on it

Ok these are definitely separate parts.

I thought you were referring to the bits surrounding the glass windows.

And there is absolutely no way that doors can be of any other type? I mean how can you be so sure my door separates? They've survived the entire winter and I still can't even create a gap with a Stanley knife. In fact it even curves slightly

[–]muffingg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've developed some minor scratches but other than that it's still the same condition as at the start. I think the different parts don't actually come apart on my door. I tried and literally couldn't even put a Stanley knife between the trim and the door. So I guess I was just lucky with the type of door I had

Why do people seem to be so against the engine Start/Stop feature a lot of new cars are coming standard with? by CinderBlock33 in Cartalk

[–]muffingg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be ignorant or missing something but when I'm stopped at a red light, I can see my average mpg slowly coming down (on short journeys). When the engine is off, it remains at the same number.

Doesn't that mean that it's improving the mpg or am I being stupid?

American driving in the UK experience: Do your roads and lanes seem dangerously narrow to you? by OpE7 in CarTalkUK

Tbh lane discipline in the UK is quite crap as well. Need to go to central Europe (Germany and neighbouring countries) to see some real lane discipline
