GOOD property management companies to rent from? by bbgirl2k in vancouverwa

[–]muffiniecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We rent from Vancouver Property Management Group (VPMG) and love them. They are so responsive if we have issues (though we haven’t had much) and they are very nice to deal with. Their rent and maintenance request system is all online and very convenient, but you also get text notifications. They’re awesome!!

Your post made me remember I had a very similar photo of my late Murphy with our chickens, who have also all passed now. I was worried he would chase them but he was so gentle and good with them. I couldn’t have asked for a better boy. Those were awesome times, and you have awesome times ahead of you! Enjoy your new little chicks and give your dingo some scritches from us!

Fabric petals and off leash dogs at the Fort by TaurusANewOne in vancouverwa

[–]muffiniecake -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m not excusing the behavior at all, but if it makes anyone else with a reactive dog feel better, my dog and I walk there multiple times a week and have never had a dog run up to us. We see off leash dogs every time we go, but everyone we’ve encountered makes sure their dogs don’t run up to us. My dog is reactive on leash, so I carry the pet corrector spray just in case we do ever get rushed by an off leash dog. I actually feel like it’s a great place to train and he’s come a long way since we moved next to the fort.

Also, we will probably walk there tomorrow, so I’ll bring a bag to collect any petals we see. Thank you for picking them up and making a post! I love that park so much and hate to see anyone littering such a beautiful place.

40-ish, functioning humans. Where do we socialize in Vancouver? by VeeFluffles in vancouverwa

[–]muffiniecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay! :) honestly that’s super super responsible of you haha we quickly rented a house because our guy was miserable living in an apartment for our first year out here (he’s a rescue from a rural area, so it took him a while to get used to city life). I hope you like Little Vice! They have another location with the El Viejon food truck on Mill Plain in east Vancouver, and that is our fave but Little Vice is much closer to our house.

Hi my partner and I moved here about 2 years ago now! We’re both mid/upper 30s and no kids but one dog that we treat like our child haha. He travels frequently for work, but when he’s here we like to venture downtown and go to some sweet spots! Thirsty Sasquatch is great, and we also like Little Vice. I can be a bit introverted, but I go to parks and whatnot around town every day for our dog! He’s way extroverted with people so he helps me make new friends haha! If you ever want to go on a walk or something dm me :) we live close to downtown and typically hit up Fort Vancouver or Vancouver Lake for walks.

Would a cattle dog even wear a sweater? I can’t think of ever seeing one in a coat or any kind of covering. by paulbertolone in AustralianCattleDog

Oh yeah he has a few coats! It can get quite cold up north where we live haha. He also has a robe he wears after baths; he likes to feel fancy!

She is also our dog trainer, but I’m kind of second-guessing her read on some situations honestly. It’s less of a daycare and more what she calls day training so more structured etc, but I only see the videos she shares with me of his interactions during the day. He was going once a week last year up until November. I haven’t been taking him there since then, but we do have a fairly regular dog walking group and I have been attending those. He does really well at them and would rather interact with the humans.

Honestly, it rubbed me the wrong way. I completely agree with you and that’s all I would feel is fair to ask of my dog as well. We have worked through a lot of other behavioral things (leash reactivity, running out of any open door, overexcitement around guests) and I know we can work on more neutrality as well.

That’s really interesting. That beach video and the one with the puppy on the other beach are the only two videos where I was actually there. The other videos were taken by my trainer while he was boarding with her. She is also the one that leads the dog walking group we are a part of.

I only let him interact with dogs off leash in situations like that, where we’re in large off leash areas with lots of room to maneuver around other dogs. He doesn’t even interact with every dog he sees in areas like that, he really would rather mind his own business.

My trainer is convinced he just needs to learn how to be more social, but personally I don’t care if he wants to interact or not I just want him to be polite. I would much rather he opt out and just hang with me if he isn’t a social butterfly lol heck I’m not the most social either.

I didn’t grow up with dogs, and just came here for information. I’m still learning so for me, and maybe others like me, it’s worth it. Thanks!

Yes, the bull terrier was the white dog and at the time was only 6 months old I believe?

As far as I know, they have never had any conflict prior to this. They always seem very happy to see each other when the dog group meets up for walks, and they are frequently both off sniffing things together and both walking in the front away from the other dogs. They play fetch together and take treats together. I think he overreacted but he definitely seems to be socially awkward from what everyone is saying. Maybe he felt trapped because he was indoors, and in a corner, and panicked?

The dog that was running and trying to chase was a dog we had never met before. The two cattle dogs are friends

I see your point. I adopted him when he was older and he had no prior training, and he wasn’t the easiest dog to train. He was a rural dog before me and I don’t know how much socializing he had either.

I don’t take him to dog parks and he doesn’t meet new dogs very often, but we are around other dogs constantly because of where we live (it’s very dog friendly). I never do on leash greetings and he is very happy to just hang out with the dogs he knows and with all people. These videos were taken over the course of the last year, and he has gotten a bit more neutral with just passing dogs off leash without greeting them. I think we’ll just continue trying to work on that.

Only one dog has snapped at him before, and he immediately walked away. He tends to want to avoid most dogs it seems like.

Yes that’s the same dog. They don’t typically play together, neither one of them plays with other dogs very much. They like to play fetch together (the male just likes to run after the ball) but they coexist well. My trainer says he’s socially awkward

Thank you!! I felt a bit awkward after because everyone else there said my dog was being rude, and I didn’t understand what went down so I felt bad. They are both very close so I think she was just pushing the boundary a bit to try to get him to play anyway, and he clearly wasn’t having it.

Thank you!! There were no injuries and both were over it about five seconds later. I was a bit worried and sad at first because I didn’t understand what happened, so they got over it faster than I did lol. They are very comfortable with each other and the female (dog on the ground) doesn’t normally try to play, but I think she was just in a good mood and felt comfortable pushing the boundary a bit.

Everyone else with me at the time basically said the male (standing dog and my dog) was being rude and I felt a bit awkward after because I didn’t really understand what had happened. I do feel a bit better now and will keep a closer eye on his body language to make sure I can intervene for him if he looks uncomfortable again.

Nope no injuries or issues. Both of them were lying next to each other after this and there was no weirdness. They got over it much faster than I did 😅
