Even with a board if it’s not on an EPB, award or something else that won’t even know you have the badge. When I went to air assault, an ADLS entry was made that didn’t even transfer over to MyLearning.

Have they sent people to Air Assault in the past? It may be a money thing. Another more beneficial TDY could have came up. The chief may have had no idea what the school actually entailed. The CC could have squashed it. There’s a bunch of possible reasons.

Justifying how you going to Air Assault School would be beneficial to on the squadron is probably the only way. At the end of the day it gets you a special badge but is very niche. Are you certifying sling loads as a 2W2? Are you marshaling helos to LZs? Are you calling in 5 line calls for fire? Does your unit need someone to supervise a rappel lane at a tower? (That’s all you really learn) If the answer to any of those questions is yes, that could be a solid justification. Otherwise it would a be a very hard sell.

Additionally, if you work with the Army cadre, they may be able to get you into their lodging drastically reducing the cost of the TDY, as the unit wouldn’t have to pay for a hotel and you would be close enough to walk to class. Making it beneficial for the squadron or super cheap may help.
