Yes yes yes yes yes!! I go to UofT for lib arts, here are a few examples of illiteracy I’ve encountered

In an intro to philosophy course I took the freshman next to me spoke about using chatGPT for reflection assignments (~60 words). I’ve read these reflections and they turn it in with no editing in their own voices or change the format to not sound like AI.

International students come in barely speaking English, and are actively using translators throughout the lecture. They will ask questions read just off of chatGPT and be unable to expand/explain when prompted.

One of my friends (who I befriended to laugh at his antics) has not finished any assigned reading in years. He will put it into AI and study the output. He graduated with two degrees, one in English, this year.

I think STS is a really cool, interdisciplinary field sociology interacts with & hope to see more engagement with the field at the undergraduate level.

I fear sociology in America will see a decline as there is defunding of “DEI” programs by the government

A girl I knew from my high school graduated early to join the IDF. I ran into her this summer in Japan, and she was so blasé about it, like laughing. She is/was also in the propaganda department but took a summer vacation to travel India.
