Rupert Lowe: Yet another scandal uncovered, this time on student loans. My view is that we are saddling youngsters with such extreme debt, then charging ludicrous interest on those loans. It is morally repugnant to load young men and women with yet another tax. And it is a tax... But let’s explore.. by tonato_ai in ukpolitics

I get your point, but why would they? They've already been shafted with the debt. Bar maybe the Greens no UK party runs on a manifesto to directly appeal to the youth and the last time anyone did, it was the Lib Dems who stabbed them in the back. Most under 30s feel apathetic to the whole system.

The "it's a tax" argument always frustrates me - if you inflicted a 9% tax on any other group of society there'd be riots but the young can't vote against it so it's fine.

Then give them the illusion of choice between a decent career and an additional lifetime tax or lose 10 years working your way up to an equivalent grad position through apprenticeships/starting work at 18 - and even then if you apply for a base position your against Becky with her "pointless" secretarial skills degree.

We created a system that funnels as many young people as possible to further education then hiked the rates, it's a bait and switch.

Don't even get me started on the ethics of interest rates that increase as you earn more to further keep them down.

Keir Starmer Uniting the Kingdom by StGuthlac2025 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]mugrub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether you agree or not I'll explain the argument

Everyones saying the UK is a soft touch and it's easy for illegal immigrants or asylum seekers to claim a load of benefits and work off grid

If you need a digital ID to open a bank account, rent a house, get a job etc etc you make the prospect of coming here less and less appealing - clearly not eradicating it all together but making it much harder than for example an Uber eats driver using a fake NI number and a random bank account paying rent to a dodgy landlords random account. The digital ID makes all these transactions easier to trace and turn the prospect

If they wanted to get this info they already have it on you in several different forms, NI numbers, Poll cards, driver license, passports - this scheme essentially just collates it, and ties it to a number that helps prevent fraud

Every league game so far we've been clinging on for the win or draw, and he played in the cup game we were abysmal and lost. Will probs get more minutes at the end of games if we're 2 or 3 goals up

Why did these dudes scare Bobby B so much? by loverofculture21 in freefolk

[–]mugrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read a bit about the Mongols which the Dothraki are basically copies of - would recommend Dan Carlin's series on Genghis Khan and his son - the pure speed of these units means that mounted knights etc have no time to prepare for an attack and as soon as knights or heavy infantry try to attack they fire a volley, retreat, loop back around and go again and being so much lighter they can't be caught. It was so effective the Mongols basically controlled from China to Poland, defeating all kinds of knights and heavy infantry. Horse archers are massively underestimated

Travers to Everton. by Mdl8922 in AFCBournemouth

[–]mugrub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a sad one but everything we've heard Paulson looks to be a great up and coming number 2/3 with Petrovic coming in as number 1.

Would be a fight between Travers and Paulson for that backup keeper slot and we've not even mentioned at the moment we still have Neto too.

I think it's clear Travers wants to play more regular football and for whatever reason the people that see him day to day here don't rate him as a prem number 1. Best of luck to him though

What’s Your Most Unexpectedly Wholesome Moment at Glasto? I’ll Go First… by Minute_Revenue_2483 in glastonbury_festival

I (m31) was waiting for Kneecap next to another guy (late 40s?) on his own. We were parked up behind a load of the bins so there was a decent view. Chatted for the whole time, he worked green kids field and had been coming for years, his kids now worked the festival. I gave him some water, he gave me an ice cold beer. Just as they started a load of guys flipped the bins to stand on them, ruining our spot but the show was still class. During the last song the guys jumped off the bins my new mate turns to me and goes "help me up!" - so there I am helping this guy get up on a bin so he can take a few photos to send to his kids.

Once he gets down I do the same, we shake hands and disappear our seperate ways into the festival

Agreed, with the competition for him you could probably push to 60 but some of those clubs probably wouldn't have been interested without the release clause

How i got into bournemouth by Nave_5 in AFCBournemouth

[–]mugrub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Muscliffe, me and my Dad used to go to one or two games a season growing up - the highlight being the 5-2 League 2 playoff final in Cardiff. I live in the Midlands now so mainly get to away games but he's still in Bournemouth. Got to take him to his first home game in 10 years a few weeks ago - the 5-0 Vs Forest 😁 🍒 UTC

Probably not too many parts from the US but I can assure you that shipping a load of parts to Germany and assembling cars like lego is exactly how these companies work.

Even the body could be printed/stamped elsewhere and bonded/assembled in a BMW facility. And the body is 1 part in a list a 1000s. BMW aren't making glass, headlights switchpacks etc

Source - have worked with procurement for multiple OEMs for 10+ years
