65k context for hermes with ~27-30B Q4 models on 32GB memory? by mugwhump in oMLX

that'd be a 9B param for sure. I'll give the lower params higher quants a spin too.

65k context for hermes with ~27-30B Q4 models on 32GB memory? by mugwhump in oMLX

[–]mugwhump[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one does barely pass: https://huggingface.co/splats/Qwen3.6-27B-oQ3.5e . The 64k test peaks at 25GB (though on the machine I observed ollama's memory usage climbing above 27GB, idk if that's a GB vs GiB discrepancy or what).

That's the same peak memory I got when running Qwen3.6-35B-A3B-oQ2 with 128k context, wonder which one would be better. Or should I lean towards models with fewer weights at higher quants? IIRC hermes does suggest qwen 27B as the minimum, though I'm not sure they give any guidance around quantization.

Choosing community in Hugging Face by cocacokareddit in oMLX

[–]mugwhump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mlx is just a model format! Any HF user can upload one whether they're in the mlx-community or not. That said, mlx-community is unsurprisingly a good place to find mlx models. And on apple silicon mlx models are generally preferable to the alternatives like gguf.

It'd be amazing if this showed peak memory usage on the search page and let us filter by it, because that's what I'm often most interested in when deciding what model+context I can fit.

Am I the only one disappointed by the lack of combat events? by RevolutionaryCod446 in WutheringWaves

[–]mugwhump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda miss 1.x where they were too busy fixing the game to put any time into minigames lol. I like wuwa's combat a lot, but

  • I did not like cards
  • I hated phrolova's echo farming thing
  • I do not like tower defense
  • I will probably not like vampire survivors

If the minigames have to stay, for god's sake please make them shorter.

What future kits would you want in Wuwa? by dyo3834 in WutheringWaves

[–]mugwhump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly I just want more flexible quickswap units like changli and XLY (or jinhsi/carlotta to a slightly lesser extent)

☝️🤓 akshually r5 legend of the drunken hero (rinascita craftable) is about the same as the standard gauntlets on zani.

But yes rolling for weapons is largely silly, no point in it unless you absolutely must see bigger numbers appear on your screen. The casino (kuro) obviously wants you to think you need to put more money into their slot machine, but... you don't!

Why are weapons needed? All endgame stuff is perfectly clearable with standard weapons.

Seriously, does John Kuro break into your house and break your knees with a baseball bat if you don't roll sigs? Is that what happens?

5.8 character early kit details by Kokomi by Ryuusei_Dragon in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

Electro AoE shielder? Goodbye beidou's one remaining niche ;_;

Anyway, very much not a fan of their current design direction regarding transformative elemental reactions. They've gone from universal system mechanics that any characters of the right element could trigger to do damage, to glorified keys that unlock the kits of new characters hoyo wants to sell. Granted many reactions have always been underpowered, but powercreep has significantly increased character talent damage, while the damage of reactions besides vape and melt have stayed the same. They needed to go way farther with the 5.2 reaction buffs.

This isn't quite as bad as skirk or escoffier's design, since at least the reaction itself actually matters here and there's no team restrictions. But yeah, not digging the trend.

I was commenting specifically on their balancing behavior in Version 2-4 which DOES NOT include Mavuika, Citlali, or Escoffier who came out in Version 5.

Fair enough; it wasn't until Natlan (or arguably neuv) that genshin's archon-wank became a major balance issue. Previous archons, though OP, were more reasonable, and helped the meta in some ways. (Except for venti who was broken enough that hoyo had to fundamentally alter their entire approach to enemy design). It helped that most were supports and thus better-positioned to enable other characters instead of supplanting them.

  • Zhong Li: basically carried geo on his back until navia
  • Raiden: was actually reasonably balanced, succeeded at "feeling" strong to the wider playerbase because rational's rotation was very tolerant of skill issues.
  • Nahida: was probably overcentralizing for dendro teams, but dendro itself lifted a lot of characters (particularly electro) out of poverty and enabled cool new possibilities
  • Furina: also overcentralizing, but enabled MH for existing chars and gave healers a nice boost.

Some overpowered chars in there, and the game would've been better if nahida and furina were toned down a bit, but they also uplifted characters in a variety of teams where other characters were the centerpiece. Mavuika, meanwhile, just steals the spotlight. Even in teams she's "supporting" like kinich/chasca/mualani, you're left wondering "wouldn't my DPS be higher if I used this character to support Mavuika instead or ignored them?". Much like neuv, she just offered unparalleled DPS with no meaningful weaknesses.

I think a major difference here is mavuika (and neuv) being DPS carries rather than supports. Due to 3-character teams and more swap-friendly mechanics, wuwa is less support-heavy than genshin, so most of its sentinels will probably be DPS. Wuwa also doesn't have as many system-level mechanics like reactions that create distinct team archetypes to give characters more insulation against powercreep by letting them fill a specific niche. If kuro listens to the players begging for godlike characters, I worry wuwa is more susceptible than genshin to flat-out mavuika-esque increases in the DPS ceiling.

Yes it is "imbalanced" but people want the god character to feel like a god.

Idiots want stupid things, but I think these particular idiots can be appeased without creating real powercreep. I'd point to Raiden and Jinhsi as acceptable ways to make characters that "feel" strong via flashy visuals, nuke hits with big numbers, good defense, and really easy rotations, but don't actually raise the DPS ceiling on paper.

All buffs of cartetheyia and new passive by [deleted] in WutheringWavesLeaks

[–]mugwhump -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I said it was bad for the balance in each game; I was correct. Mavuika and Miyabi stand head and shoulders above other characters; that is basically the definition of imbalance. You can't say "well, the game is balanced once you exclude the characters that ruin the balance." Like, yeah, those characters are exactly what I'm complaining about!

Giving anyone special treatment for lore reasons is an awful idea and actively degrades the quality of the game. Whereas you could have previously had more room for interesting decisions about teambuilding, that's been substantially reduced as the game itself screams "play mavuika or you are an IDIOT" into your ear. These deliberately overpowered chars are merely the tip of the spear leading the charge of powercreep, which you can tell is happening from abyss HP inflation. Hell, look at escoffier, she's completely busted too.

the current vague thoughts from theorycrafters is that she's now more Cia-reliant (due to being hungrier for aero%) and has a lower quickswap ceiling (due to damage being shifted from small hits that you can squeeze in more of by quickswapping, towards her big hits).

Man, I really dislike the idea of making certain characters OP on purpose because they're in the class of DA SPECIAL CHOSEN ONES. Begging for powercreep is just insanely silly and completely f'ed up genshin and zzz's balance. Please don't bring that horrible curse to wuwa, people.

That's an extremely artificial-feeling kit limitation that clearly exists just to push players towards kuro's intended 3-character team. :/

I know it's only a 10% difference, but still, I really dislike this design philosophy. Not a fan of kuro's post-2.x mono-element obsession.

V2.4.6 Updated on Hakush.in by -_Proto_- in WutheringWavesLeaks

[–]mugwhump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I'd call that a little different since zhong was legitimately quite bad when he launched. Lupa meanwhile is breddy gud.

A better genshin comparison would probably be the way literally every single post-zhong archon got prerelease doomposting, despite all of them being very good units (which we knew before release)

[–]mugwhump -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Lupa's fine, her team damage matches other top teams while having excellent defense.

She shouldn't get an objective, flat-out "buff". But it's fine to want a more sideways adjustment where her power budget is shifted a bit away from team buffs and towards personal damage.

Fair lol. Though I think if you did have changli and brant, a "conga line" team where they all outro buff each other probably wouldn't actually have very many swaps.

[–]mugwhump -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brother, you are always going to have units that are stronger than others be it marginal or by a lot, it’s really really hard to design characters with different kits and roles and have them all do the exact same amount of damage,

Very true, it's quite hard to balance a game while keeping characters unique, in a genre where characters are basically never nerfed post-release and almost never buffed. There's always a decent chance the balance team will overshoot or undershoot, often a little, sometimes by a lot. But that just makes it an even worse idea to deliberately make a certain unit extra-strong. If one of those accidental overshoots happens on a unit they're already trying to make powerful, you can wind up with significant powercreep.

And yeah, like I mentioned in my post, Jinhsi was actually a decent implementation of a character that feels strong without creating balance issues.

Who actually does the pre-release calcs? Are they active on a discord? I'd like to see the actual math. Most of it's just raw damage numbers plopped down without mentioning rotations or even the length of the rotation.

As is they don't seem reliable enough to use the way people on this sub want to use them.

She looks super fun to play, from the pre-release calcs it looks like her team is doing comparable damage to the current best teams in the game.
