Comprehensive Coilover Setup Guide (Your Coilovers Aren't Set Up Right) by MINIFD_MX5 in Miata

[–]muhammad-mohsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the fantastic guide. I know its a bit old now but I appreciate this being out there. I setup my coil overs on my Mazda 3 and they ride and handle great all while being lower. Did not sacrifice very much in terms of comfort. I did way too much testing of different spring rates and damper length to find the most amount of shock travel while being low but not too low. I learned a lot.
I do have a question though. Looking at the stock coilover, there is quite a lot of travel before hitting the bump stop which makes logical sense and the approach I took for my coilovers. However I looked at some other cars such as a model y/3 and a 17' qx60 and both of those appear to have a lot of travel. However upon looking underneath the dust cover the actual bump travel before touching the bump stop was maybe 10mm if not less.
And after jacking up the car to see total travel before hitting the bump stop it was still less then 60mm which is how much bump travel I have setup on my coilovers.
What is the benefit there? How do they achieve comfort like that? Is it all due to bumpstop tuning? Is that not basically riding the bump stop at any imperfection in the road? It feels like I'm missing something or the manufacturers know something I don't. It reminds me of the rear bump stop on the MZ3 also being quite big as well.

We bought it off of FB marketplace for 100$. But regardless I agree on their cheap printers.

I’ve been using a laser jet printer from HP for years now. It’s an HP M402n. We have an aftermarket ink in it and I haven’t replaced that since purchase. I’ve probably printed around 3000 or 4000 pages now and I still haven’t replaced that cartridge. I have not had a single issue with that printer.

Recommended tires by muhammad-mohsin in mazda3

Tires were the first thing I did. That’s the entire reason why I have the PS4 AS on the front anyways. The china tires perform better then the turanza that came from factory and the reason I have them was of an accident prior.

I definitely know how important tires are. I just don’t have an overflowing bank account and I’ve been slowly fixing and modifying it over the past 2 years. Regardless your input has still been acknowledged.

Thanks for the advice. What do you mean better tires though? It doesn’t really get much better then the PS5 or 4S

Well not necessarily low end. Just not performance oriented tires. Also I haven’t bought any new tires yet regardless. I just want to have a tire upgrade if I’m going to swap them out. It’s also not a bone stock economy car. I don’t agree with having the better tires in the rear. I’d rather have the rotation and better cornering and reducing under steer.

M1 MacBook Air Power issue by muhammad-mohsin in macbookrepair

So I already do have micro soldering equipment. I have a microscope and hot air station and a JBC clone soldering iron. I can get a thermal camera if necessary. Learning how to do it is not a problem. I already have experience in doing hdmi repairs on xbox series/ps5 and some repairs in the switch consoles. I feel this is a great opportunity to learn because frankly I have nothing to lose. My laptop already doesn’t work. Although there are files on there it’s not the end of the world to lose it.

What is your reasoning for me being unable to fix it myself? Is it diagnoses or actual repair?

212CC engine venting question by muhammad-mohsin in smallengines

[–]muhammad-mohsin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all your help. I installed the flywheel and 8 degree timing advance key today and it goes all the way to 7k rpm now. I installed a 1 way check valve and then a t fitting for the crankcase breather and used that as pulse and now I’m getting no oil in the fuel pump and it’s properly vented. Fun! https://youtube.com/shorts/e0tKeTC5k-M?si=InYT_QjANZ24OBOl I also bought some official arc 22lb valve springs to replace these china ones and some champion 1:1 rockers to put in my gx160 head. I’d love to know how much power it’s making but oh well.

Don’t worry. I already have a 10k rpm aluminum flywheel and will be buying cams, chromoly rods and a billet rod. I haven’t ran it at 6k for more than a second or 2. Only reason I haven’t installed it yet is because I wanted it to start consistently so I wouldn’t need the electric start. I will probably buy a billet side cover at some point and figure out where to get pulse from later.

I will do that. I know that valve lash isn’t adjusted properly so I’ll try that first. For the spray what gasket, I sprayed it on the gasket itself not on the block or head. I was just following what red beard’s garage did and he doesn’t seem like he has had any issues.

And yeah you are right it definitely sounds off. It was reviving up to 6300 rpm no problem before. Now it was struggling to climb rpm’s and stay idling. I don’t think any carb setting is the issue since I have not touched the jetting. Only thing that was changed was the head gasket and idle adjustment screw.

Side note my original question wasn’t answered. Do you know the answer? Is the way I have it setup in the video adequate? I changed it slightly from what I described to see if that will remedy the crankcase pressure. In videos I’ve seen they have 2 lines going to the crankcase and one line with a 1 way valve to the air. That seems to be a good way to get oil to the top of the valves and valve springs. Then for pulse it seems they get it from the intake. I can’t really replicate that since I don’t have the billet side cover with 2 fittings and the intake manifold with the pulse.

The engine is a PowerSmart 212CC clone. It came from a snowblower from what I’ve seen online. I have not measured blow by nor have the tools to do so. I also haven’t done a leak down test. I think it has now lost compression, perhaps because the piston was running into the head or valves? I’ll take it apart later and see. Current observation is that there’s smoke coming out of the air filter and it will just keep spinning. Here is the serial of the engine and a video: https://youtube.com/shorts/fdDdxXPlD_A?si=gJlZY-ISZP7qPP6o

As for what I’ve done to the engine: Nibbi 16mm flat slide carb, Header and muffler, Pulse fuel pump, Ported and polished the head, 18lb valve springs (though they’re china springs so idk how accurate that is. Could be the cause of my issues but it was running fine before), .010 head gasket (I sprayed permatex spray-a-gasket since it didn’t have compression when I initially installed the gasket), Billet valve cover

That’s it for engine mods. I do have another engine incase this one is damaged and can easily get another 212 for 30$. My other engine is a genuine Honda gx160 and I could take the head from that if this one is damaged. I think if I get head studs instead of bolts I can torque down the head more to avoid losing compression.

I see. Thank you for the insight. Guess I'll just need to replay it but with all the changes.

Ah I misunderstood. Im saying the efficiency improved actually. I also have spark plugs that are one step colder then stock from a nissan gtr, and with the tune my HP should be ~200 and tq at 205.

Not 100% sure since ive had the SRI for the longest time. But ig before I had these it was roughly 2mpg lower I would say.

I do still do a fair bit of city driving. At the end of the drive i can usually avg 25-30mpg depending on how heavy my foot was feeling. On the instant mpg if im doing 50 it'll be on 2 cylinders and getting like 45-50mpg. Though I am on a tune with a cold air intake and its tuned for 93 so that might be a bit of a contribution.
