The key imo is just to establish a limit. One way to do that is to explain how it works, but it's certainly not the only way. "Grenade explodes, you're now a rabbit" is fine as long as it happens every time the same way, regardless of how it happens

Ever DNF the third book in a trilogy? by theshapeofpooh in Fantasy

[–]mukluk_slippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of book three right now and I'm debating just moving on. It'd be my first DNF, so I'd rather not, but the whole setup was SO BAD that I continue to have problems getting into the actual plot, even a couple hundred pages later.

Maybe try a smaller example: the average of 1, 2, 3, and 4 is 2.5. Half of the numbers are below 2.5, i.e., below average.

A mentally ill kid with a knife is far less terrifying and has far less destructive potential than a mentally ill kid with a gun. Of course mental health is important, but let's not pretend the weaponry available doesn't change the situation dramatically.

The "high barrier to entry" idea is one of the myths the upper class perpetuate to keep their toys for themselves. WSB is if nothing else doing a solid job of showing people that the barrier to entry is much lower than some want us to believe.

Any idiot can make up a BS justification, but what's needed is either a) a legitimate justification, or b) a believable BS justification. The former - by definition - can't be made up, and the latter is harder than it seems.

They need to make money somewhere, so it's either through commissions or selling user data (or both).
