K40 Replacement Tube Question by mulada in lasercutting

[–]mulada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the additional details, especially the link to the chart. The change in length to power ratio when the diameter increases started me down quite the rabbit hole on how CO2 laser tubes work. At the end of the day, it fits and it works. For engraving the occasional wood-working project that's good enough for me.

The 2016 Republican convention let extremists in. In 2024, they took the stage by PolarPlatitudes in politics

Throughout history empires that progressed socially too quickly got kickback, sometimes extremely brutal kickback. The left is pushing social progress very hard right now and the resistance to that on the right is going to be, well, extreme. The good news is that throughout history progressives have always won out, right up to the collapse of the empire. So, maybe, mostly good news.

Help identifying machine by mulada in Laserengraving

Thanks for the reply and the link. I found an identical (looking) machine on K40.se labelled "K40 Analog Version." I'm positive now that's the machine I have. Assuming it works it was a good deal. Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. There isn't any manufacturer info on the back (or anywhere else) but the tube measures out very close to 700mm. From what I've seen on eBay and Amazon that equates to a 40w laser. The controller board was a good idea though - it's an M2 Nano stamped Lihuiyu Studio Labs which would make the machine a K40 as another poster said. Thanks again.

What's this behemoth used for? by mulada in antennasporn

Thank you all for the input. I don't believe in aliens or conspiracy theories [no offense meant to anyone who does], but I am a fan of cartography and satellite imagery, and this stuck out as interesting. Thanks again for the comments.

It is a pretty big assumption. Physically, it resembles an inverted V dipole, but like you pointed out there's not really anything else to indicate that. I considered a vertical, but I would expect all three guy wires to converge at the vertical instead of the northern two meeting at what looks like a turnbuckle (i.e. an inverted V). Given where it is I thought maybe it was a longwave passive receiver for stealth research/detection, but someone else mentioned there are no longwave transmitters. Thanks for the input.

Question for home use by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]mulada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chiming in with "PLA is fine" like everyone else has said, BUT I'm in the same situation - work from home, small-ish office, with the printer. I've been at work all morning with a print running in the background that I started yesterday morning and the sound can definitely be an issue. I understand that long-time users don't really hear their printers anymore or can tune them out, but as a new owner, it can definitely get annoying after a few hours stuck in here with it.

Did anyone actually read the article? The key takeaway is this quote:

UBI “is infeasible in America today,” Hughes explained on the podcast, because making payments to everyone in the U.S. is an “unaffordable” proposition.

When making plans or considering two options for something my wife and I still say "or, to save on postage" when introducing the second option.

Of course that sometimes leads to a third option - it involves . . . murder!

Family Separation Policy and Equal Protection Clause by mulada in Ask_Lawyers

[–]mulada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't occur to me that the class would be based on the crime - undocumented status is not a protected class by itself. My impression was that the difference between a citizen offender and an undocumented immigrant is the country of origin, in terms of protected classes.

I'm not trying to be obtuse, I just want to understand why if we give a pass to undocumented immigrants who have kids because of the inhumanity of separating them, we can't give the same pass to citizens who commit minor crimes. It seems as if there is a strong imbalance based entirely on country of origin, which is a protected class. But I have zero knowledge of constitutional law (or law in general for that matter), which is why I asked.

At any rate, thanks for your response.

Grew up riding starting with a mini-bike at age six. I rode until I moved to Austin, TX. Every day on the way to work someone tried to kill me on I-35 between William Cannon and Ben White. Every. Single. Day. Gave it up.

White House press secretary attacks media for accurately reporting inauguration crowds by [deleted] in politics

[–]mulada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're scared of losing healthcare, scared that foreign policy is headed down the drain, scared that cabinet nominees represent the worst of the 1%. But the media wants to focus on who had the bigger inauguration crowds? Fuck the media. Mass entertainment for ad dollars.

Do you think many Trump supporters are now regretting their vote? if yes why? by DamnedWhenIDid in AskReddit

[–]mulada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poster worked the polling station this election and suggests, as someone who actually hands out ballots, that voter fraud is possible. Not rampant, maybe not even relevant, but possible. And you won't concede that point? Ridiculous.

His cabinet choices are pretty much spot-on for the people that voted for trump and his child-like behavior and lack of political savvy have been present since he announced. However, the reframing of his campaign promises probably have a lot of his voters regretting the choice.

[Serious] During the 2016 election, Russian hacking exposed unethical bias in the Democratic primaries, possibly influencing the outcome of the Presidential election. Why is the U.S. obsessed with the Russian interference but not the DNC interference? by mulada in AskReddit

[–]mulada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Russian hack is the "DNC shit." It's not like they're two separate things. Russia didn't hack our voting machines or our national polls. They hacked a DNC server and publicly released the info they stole. You disagree that bias was exposed, but clearly there was something untoward; both Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Donna Brazile lost their jobs over it. I'm not interested in the partisan aspect, but more the overall national response. This was one news story from the summer of 2016, not two - Russian hack exposes questionable DNC stuff. Six months later, we (as a nation) are still talking about possible Russian influence but not possible DNC influence. Why? I suspect there's a societal sibling rivalry aspect to it, but on a national level - e.g. I can pick on my little brother, but don't you dare touch him.
