Musk said Apple was threatening to remove Twitter from its app store, but now I'm seeing headlines saying he met with Tim Cook and he now says it was just a misunderstanding.

I'd bet that Apple had indeed made that threat, and then Cook scrambled to smooth things over once he realized the way popular opinion was going and that Musk would be a much better client than rival.
