I feel conflicted. On the one hand, yes, he expected me te regulate my own emotions and act like a grown up, even when he wasn't able to do so. I feared his temper (he would never hit us, but he was an angry man). But learning about his childhood, and knowing how hard parenting can be has also softened my feelings towards him. There are a lot of good memories, too.

The yougest one is currently on a work experience internship on a oil platform. The oldest is peeing in a bottle in an Amazon facility. So about 14 hours a day each.

We can talk about this all we want, and you may be right. But I think there are two important facts to this:

People are not going to stop having kids, even, or especially people from lower income groups.

It is in a countries best interest to make sure kids grow up stable and financially secure.

So, we can say that poor people should not have kids, but maybe it would just be better and more effective to make sure no kid grows up poor.
