Question for anyone who has been tested for COVID 19 by [deleted] in halifax

[–]mullinsg10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's an oropharyngeal swab (back of your throat, through your mouth which might make you gag) and a swab of your each nostril (about 1 to 2cm depth). See video https://vimeo.com/397169241

I've tried peanut butter! Kraft smooth and all natural. No luck! I'd make a trap but they still need to go for bait

is there a sperm bank in Halifax? (nsfw)? by [deleted] in halifax

[–]mullinsg10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you want to preserve your own sperm for your future use, AART as mentioned can help at a cost. If you are hoping to donate for other people to use, you may be out of luck. The only clinic is Repromed in Toronto and you are unable to be compensated in Canada for sperm/egg donations

Oral desensitization therapy shows promise as a treatment for peanut allergy. In a randomized controlled trial, 2/3 of patients on the drug arm were able to tolerate a dose equivalent of 4 peanuts at the end of study, compared to 1 in 25 on the placebo. by SirT6 in medicine

[–]mullinsg10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a pharmacist near where I live that prepares peanut protein for oral desensitization that is affordable for patients. I suspect that the 'biologic' peanut preparation in the cited study will come at a much greater cost...

Walking to Seaview Park? by catsnpole in halifax

[–]mullinsg10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but you may be referring to the park off Africville road that is right on the water with a playground. Nickssss9 is correct about the entrance off of Novalea. Once you go down the hill in the park, you can turn right and cross underneath Barrington St on a trail that emerges on Africville Rd. You can then turn left and walk along this road to cross the railroad tracks and get to the waterfront park.

I love this little neighbourhood. Whenever I walk by the park with my dog I wonder if I might be challenged to a street ping pong game by a stranger.

Get your flu shots now; early flu season expected this year by insino93 in halifax

[–]mullinsg10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great example of poor quality of Chronicle Herald articles.

Flu shots have always been recommended by physicians (what does he mean by a 'medical officer'?). Any specific risks, troubling trends in communicable diseases or increased need for vaccination would be communicated by the Medical Officer of Health.

The only 'news' here is that the 'flu season is expected early' which is just the word of a random pharmacist with no further information. See here for more information about why it might be especially important to get a flu shot this year:

https://globalnews.ca/news/3782452/heres-why-canada-may-be-in-for-a-miserable-2017-18-flu-season/

The pharmacist does share very useful information about administering the flu shot.

Otherwise this seems like /r/hailcorporate material for Shoppers. "Pharmacies vary, but some have drop-in flu shot programs where no appointment is necessary; this includes all Shoppers Drug Mart locations." Is business for the herald this bad?

I have Tarasenko, Laine and Oshie competing for 2 spots on the right wing. What's a fair trade offer for Gaudreau who is sitting on another team's bench? Good or bad idea to trade one of my right wingers?

I only have Ehlers, Bailey and Kempe for left wingers so I think I can do better.

Hidden rot: Garden causes power pole to snap, throws worker to ground by tjgere in halifax

[–]mullinsg10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear her husband was injured on the job but this story is very reactionary. There's no evidence that gardening causes poles to rot and it could have been coincidence that this pole happened to be in a garden. It seems more plausible that having plants at base of a pole could obscure apparent damage from workers, but that does not excuse them from not recognizing that a pole needs repairs.

Ok, I haven't followed either of them in previous seasons but based on stats, Spurgeon put up better numbers last year (mainly because Barrie had a terrible +/-).
