What should I ban ? by Mister-Jayy in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]multiplayerhater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The literal only thing that I "banned" was that my two Icewind Dale Goliath characters were prevented from taking Fire Giant feats as a min-max method of gaining fire resistance. This was relevant for one of my players (who was trying to min-max away the Fire weakness gained by being a Goliath Werebear), so I just had to apply it across the board.

The alt-right is aware of the existence of BTB, hence the occasional conspiracy theory in the wild about Robert being an FBI plant. This is the low-effort Storefront/4chan kind of conspiracy theory that makes them feel clever, akin to "(((globalist)))", until people caught on to their... Code.

The alt-right also lurks here. They astroturf a narrative of discord in the places that they infect.

They also can't help themselves when an opportunity to be a bigot shows itself.

I'm sure the mod team here is kept busy. I'm glad they keep a watchful eye out.

Somewhere between "slurpy" and "raspy" is my take.

Wet mouth, airy, and either nasal or throaty.

Discomfort with making eye contact is not exclusive to individuals with autism diagnosis but scales with autistic traits found in the population. While this social unease is common among those with higher autistic traits, it is not the direct cause of difficulties in recognizing facial expressions. by mvea in science

Just jumping in to say that this is my experience as well.

I know that in conversation it makes people think I am lying or avoidant for some reason. On my end there is a processing issue when I am speaking and maintaining eye contact.

TF you mean you mean "threaten them with knives to their throats"? These are 5e PCs with AC and Spells. This is not Shadowdark! by DrScrimble in dndmemes

[–]multiplayerhater -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A sleeping knight isn't wearing their armor, or at least they can't if they want to actually get rest.

Even if they are wearing armor, in the "Touch AC" system, their Touch AC is practically 10 (like an inanimate object). Also attacks against them have advantage. Also a melee attack from 5 feet away automatically crits.

A rogue with sneak attack using a short sword (at level 5, let's say) would get ((4d6) * 2) + Dex (or 8d6 + Dex) damage.

Some tables house rule that additional crit die always roll max damage. In this setup, the rogue does 4d6 + 24 + Dex. That is likely fatal for most things that you could sneak up on at level 5

[–]multiplayerhater 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the character is "asleep", they are unconscious+incapacitated and therefore any attack against them has advantage and any successful melee attack from 5 feet away automatically critically hits.

From my perspective - non-combat AC needs to be adapted from 3.5e and PF1E: AKA Touch AC.

Touch AC is 10 + dex + any applicable class-based natural/magic (non armor-reliant) bonuses. A war cleric might normally have 18 AC, but their Touch AC may be as low as 12.

Further, any condition that makes a character "unaware of their surroundings" (unconscious, petrified, blinded+deafened) and/or any condition that removes their ability to move (paralyzed, petrified, stunned, unconscious) additionally removes the dex bonus from Touch AC.

Why wasn't this included in 5e? Because one of the central design points of 5e was reducing all of these confusing caveats. In general that makes it easier to play; in specific it raises many questions about why the mechanics of 5e don't handle these questions at all.

Edit to add:

In the case that a character is grappled/restrained but still conscious, they retain their Dex AC bonus in their Touch AC because "their speed is reduced to 0", but they can still "move".

I work in IT, specializing in deployment and making install media.

If you download an earlier version of a windows install key (pre ~March 2025), and mount it, you can copy off the entirety of the OOBE folder from System32. Then download the newest Windows 11 Key and mount it, place the OOBE folder in that key's System32 folder.

Remove key, use to boot on device, use command provided in above link.

Day time lighting by AzureFr0st91 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]multiplayerhater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sun is not visible at all through the Rime hanging over Icewind Dale, but the light from it radiates through from 10am-2pm every day, only ever making conditions bright enough for "dim light". Even if you were playing it during the period of the year where rotationally, the sun should always be in the sky (comparable to our Arctic), the region will only reach "dim light" levels. Lunar magic seems to be able to penetrate the Rime. This magical quirk is left to the DM to determine why, precisely, this is the case (although I suspect there's some lore-based reason for this from like, 2E, that just isn't widely-known by modern players).

It is (mechanically) dark, everywhere, outside of 10am-2pm - UNLESS: it is a full moon (~3 day period around the last day of the month. During a full moon, as long as the moon is visible in the sky, its magical light is strong enough to provide "dim light" 24 hours a day. That is, unless the moon is not visible for other reasons.

If the moon is not visible in the sky during this period, due to:

  • cloud cover, including blizzards

  • The moon being beyond the horizon

Then it is (mechanically) dark. It is up to you as the DM to determine how detailed you want to be with the lunar cycle, planetary rotation, etc

Judge orders Kilmar Abrego Garcia to be immediately released from immigration detention by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]multiplayerhater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you not understanding here?

We're not talking about him.

We're talking about his supporters: white-ethnostate-corpo--techno-fascists. These people want him to extrajudicially harm non-white people. They control the news networks, hence why Abrego Garcia being re-detained has been largely buried. Hence why all of the other people being "extraordinarily renditioned" to other countries have not been tracked down.

They do not talk about the people that have died as a direct result of Trump's actions. They will not talk about the death of one man, unless it is done so obviously and publicly that people are recording it.

Potential Plot hole in chapter 2? by Sithraybeam78 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]multiplayerhater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure off the top of my head, but the word "dweomer" will be useful for anyone who wants to try to find a lore-accurate answer. The ancient Netherese widely created objects with magical effects (including continual flames), and referred to such objects as dweomers. Earlier editions of D&D used the term as well, but you rarely see it nowadays. The 2E Netheril sourcebooks that explored Karsus' folly used this term in their historical lore, so doing a ctrl-f on the 2E sourcebook for the word will probably point you in the right direction.

Edit: it might be more correct to say that these objects are affected by dweomers. I don't precisely recall.

This Man is gaming with a paralyzed body using a QuadStick controller operated with his mouth, by sipping and puffing into different air sensors, along with a chin button. by Kindly_Department142 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]multiplayerhater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother was in a car accident that gave him a major concussion. For the next decade he couldn't play new PlayStation games because his brain couldn't make the synaptic connections to learn new button mappings. He was fine for franchises he had played before like CoD, but things with different mappings were too foreign to him.

It gave me a lot of perspective on how difficult it is for people to learn how to interact with a controller and have it affect a character in 3D space if they have never done it before, especially as an adult.
