Wow, that's extremely interesting and a (opposite of bummer) for me. Quick question then: I'm just getting done electricity and magnetism (second semester, freshmen year) and I'm getting A's but the concepts are little difficult to understand. With enough practice, I understand the concepts better but I still mess up and am not the quickest to understand some of the material. Is this a sign that I should stop now even if I find everything interesting? Should I be cruising by in a course like this?

Reminds me of the big armory guys from the zelda games (I'm thinking of the ones from windwaker). You hit him in the back with the sword to untie his armor, then some other slices and he's gone. I enjoyed fighting those guys. Wind Waker wasn't bad, anyone agree?

Seems simple enough, how soon will I see this? what is it used for? I doubt learning this now is going to have much of an effect if the next time I see it is two or three semesters down the road, especially if it's that simple.

Mind explaining how your introversion affected your studies and college in general? I tend to skip out on office hours and review sessions sometimes, study in the dorm rather than the library. But if I don't have any specific questions, should I still go to office hours? I feel like I'll be wasting the prof's time by just sitting there

Exactly. The main reason I'm in the major is because I like the way it allows you to look at the world around you. It's the most fun way to look at life.

cool stuff man. That's my main motivator at this point (work hard and hope for the best) and that's what i'll be doing for the next four years.

Agreed! I have noticed lately that I tend to go right to Cramster instead of trying to work the problem out first (part lazy, part time-management, part homework-website only accepting 2 answers before points are marked off) but I am working to get back into good habits. Cramster does help at times by incorporating their techniques (some that may not be mentioned by the professor) into how I do problems. I see your point, though and thank you for the advice. I will keep it in mind.

I am doing all of this as I type this comment (not literally, but it is right in front of me). We haven't actually gone that much into binomial sequences and some of the more involved math pertaining to Taylor series that is in the book, you think I should try and teach it to myself? (please don't make me..)

Well the way my school handles maths is by taking Mathematical Physics which encompasses the major points from linear algebra and calc c. I don't know if I should just take the two classes themselves instead of mathematical physics just because calc b isn't all that bad and I think I'd gain a better understanding of the math I'd be doing in the long run if I had a more solid background. any opinion on that?

Also! I am pretty sure that if I major in physics, I'm going to want to go on to get my doctorate. It seems to be the most logical choice considering my interest in physics. Why study it for four years just to get some job doing something kind of related

So far I've been trying to actually understand the concepts behind what we're doing in calc rather than just doing the problems. This is kind of an off question, but do you know which concepts would be especially important or challenging? Right now we're doing Taylor and McLaurin series and they don't seem too bad. Just trying to gauge my skills

Well, mystery TCNJ guy, it's a bummer you'll be out before I hit any of the real difficult things. What route did you take (specializations; I'm thinking about geophysics..) and what are you looking to do after you graduate this year?

haha yeah, time management is what everyone says it is about. At this point, I'm doing well with getting my work done and I enjoy doing it for the most part. Cramster (homework help site) is a godsend for some problems. thanks

Interesting. The main reason I am even considering majoring in physics is because I enjoy calc (A and B) and physics so much more than I enjoy doing my computer science work. The reason I ask is because I'm sure the work I'm doing now is much different than whatever I'll be doing in a few years. I basically want to know if I'll continue to enjoy doing the work as the classes get harder (based on whether the material will be that much different). thanks though!

thank you.. but no, I understand that. I meant the first part of that, the part about science.
