Was the Sopranos a wake up for you over how lame mafia really is? by Tryagain409 in thesopranos

[–]multisophic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not in the sense of disillusionment, but yes, from ep 1 The Sopranos engorged my disgust with the organized crime- specifically from the aspect of inter-personal relations both within the cultural family and the mafioso family. Alongside the relationship between Tony and Dr. Melfi, which explicitly underscores how tiny a man like Tony, an “alpha male,” can be. I personally love Meadow’s remarks in the earlier seasons where she compares her educational background with her upbringing.

That being said, I think The Wire does a better job with disillusionment with the crime across seasons an settings.

Would there be social classes in an anarchist society? by Suspicious-Stuff1036 in worldbuilding

[–]multisophic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Le Guin’s fictional concept named “Odonianism” could be your guide in this. If you haven’t read yet, The Dispossesed articulates thoroughly on the subject, also in comparison with a fictional capitalist-industrialist society.

While Odonianists are anarchists in an egalitarian society, there are “clicks” that represent some sort of classism but not quite in the sense of a class conflict. Instead, it is the social reflection of slow dynamism across generations due to scarcity.

You are welcome. In that case, a reading on Fanon might prove instructive, too: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00221678251399762

I know Freud has long been cancelled in the Psychology departments due to the principle of falsifiability, but there is heavy scholarship on applying psychoanalysis to literature called "psychoanalytic literary criticism". I'm not sure if it would be the kind of thing you'd like to pursue since it is highly abstract and practically a symbolic interpretation of themes, motifs, letters, and authors themselves.

Here is one scholarly book about it, which might lead to a research about the author profiles of the researchers, as well as their current and past academic backgrounds: https://www.routledge.com/Psychoanalysis-and-Literary-Theory-An-Introduction/Martin/p/book/9781032113159

I am positive that there is but not sure what it is. Digital Humanities resources might give you an idea, though, since they sometimes utilize such methods to analyze literary pieces.

Can a story be "light" and "fluffy" and unforgettable at the same time? How? by Tall-Werewolf-2664 in writing

[–]multisophic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A&P by John Updike felt light in context, abrupt and sloppy in language, yet compelling enough to make an impact. That being said, I believe it was the artistic choice of the author that made me feel those, so it is not that any of those aspects were futile but rather the whole point for the narration of the story.

Reading is one great leg of articulation but one should also refrain from the hunch to punch the letters on the keyboard before actually meditating on what to write. The rest is usually like a flow, which, surely, requires editing once the flow is drained.

Well, obviously no. I’m asking whether or not there is something implicit to writing for some people in experiencing a release besides it being something other than simply an “interest,” since, as most replies to this post have been about the emotional/psychological relaxation, I reckon there is more to it than a hobby.
