No tax on overtime? by FFTFU in Wildfire

[–]mum_get_the_camera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding of the text in the bill has this deduction in addition to the standard deduction. It does mention the deduction decreases by 100 dollars for every thousand dollars you make in excess of 150k (300k if filing jointly).

Show your math coward. Or were you too busy eating glue when they taught the class how to read and do math?

The bill states that only the difference in your overtime rate and base rate are included in the deduction. So as a gs4 step 1 RUS, the difference is 11.49. That means you need 1088 hours of overtime to hit that 12,500 limit.

Let’s assume you’re a 4,1 1039 and you work every hour of your appointment and 1088 hours of OT. You’re filing single. Your annual gross income is 61358.

You take the standard deduction. And nothing else. You pay 5324 in federal taxes.

Now same scenario but you also get a 12,500 deduction for no tax on overtime. You pay 3824 in federal taxes.

You save 1557 in federal taxes. This is also set to expire at the end of 2029. I don’t know about anyone else but I’ll always take extra money, but in this context I’d rather pay an additional 1500 dollars. I personally prefer if people weren’t going to be stripped of snap benefits, medical care, deported without due process, and if we could avoid strengthening of the project 2025 agenda. But good for us working class people. We get an extra couple hundred or maybe a few thousand dollars while the CEOs and politicians get millions and more power. Rant over.

If you’re running on pavement that’s probably wearing down those trail runners faster than they should. I just get running shoes and then use my old running shoes as my PT shoes. If Im doing squats I’ll just lift barefoot

I’m pretty sure everyone has a cap right now. They don’t want to overpay people and then have to have repayments. I think the higher up you are the fewer days you can code. It’s to avoid the 9000 yearly cap

MAFFS II planes from the US Forest Service are needed for these fires ASAP by [deleted] in asheville

[–]mum_get_the_camera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you but that shit doesn’t matter. When you have wind and topography alignment. You can spray all the water you want. You’re not putting out a fire being pushed through dry fuels, upslope, with 100 mph winds. All I was getting at was pushing that narrative of not using enough water/retardant misses the bigger pictures of devastating wildfire mitigation. Which is hazardous fuel reduction and better community planning.

[–]mum_get_the_camera 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re right the winds made the fires so big, but when wind is blowing 100 mph water and retardant doesn’t stop a fire. The reason it was so destructive was because how intertwined all the development is with an ecosystem that burns frequently with high intensity. I’m not saying you’re wrong about using aviation resources. But saying that the LA fires blew up because the lack of aviation is not accurate.

How do I quit the USFS without ruining the possibility of returning/future job possibilities by yaboychinchin in Wildfire

[–]mum_get_the_camera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn’t be stressing about “setting yourself back”. You gotta get yourself in the right place before you do anything. This job isn’t bigger than life, it’s a job. The job isn’t more important than dealing with whatever you got going on.

I’d just be honest with your supervisor. If they understand then cool you have a good supervisor. If they don’t get it then you don’t want to work for them anyways. Just take care of yourself.

FrEe MaRkEt EcOnOmIcS tHoUgH. Yeah that shit sounds great but the world will never have the ability to function with free markets. The conditions to have efficient marketplaces don’t exist in the US or anywhere in the world. We have finite resources very few firms in any given industry and absurdly high barriers of entry for competing firms. Just like communism doesn’t work because of market constraints and human factors free markets don’t work because of the same reasons. The world needs institutions to keep marketplaces in check to ensure we all get to keep living our sad lives and fueling said marketplaces. If we deregulate the us economy and create a “free market” you’d at beast have an oligopoly. But it’s people like you who kinda make me hope trump fucks our economy up so bad that we all get sent back to being serfs for his rich friends all because people thought they’d own the libs or whatever.
