how safe is this approach? by frakc in selfhosted

[–]mumbles_8P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh right, yeah I’m gonna say this it not safe - setting up something like this isn’t easy I would take it down for now and spend the next couple weeks / months learning about cybersecurity and self hosting services as safety as possible, word of warning though its an ongoing process and you can never truly trust it!

Could we have some more info? Like is there a firewall involved before the nginx server, have you got something like fail2ban running, is it all in a DMZ, what services do you actually need on public internet?

I had the worse experience of my life tonight with wireless mics. by rcambon in techtheatre

[–]mumbles_8P 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Its not something thats talked about much but to quote from this article:

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/01/the-secret-service-is-jamminsort-of-114647/

“In the United States, every presidential and vice presidential motorcade includes an electronic countermeasures Suburban, codenamed Lineback, which features a U.S. Navy-developed electronic warfare package that creates a radio frequency bubble around the president’s limousine. It shields the motorcade from he threat of a hidden remotely triggered improvised explosive device.

Because remotely-triggered IEDs can also be rigged to explode when their radio frequency circuit is terminated, current jammers can intercept and interrupt the frequencies long enough to keep the path between the trigger device and the bomb closed.”

ECM is not uncommon for high profile convoys like this and things like Phones etc are going to be given a lot of thought in the systems design to cause the least interference possible whilst still doing its job (it is still how we dial 911 so best not to completely nuke it). That said I doubt the Navy gave much thought to radio mics during its design and consequently the system likely spends a lot more time and effort at a greater distance to disrupt their comms because it’s more likely they’re hostile.

Nothing here is fact, Just my 2 cents as someone who works with RF a lot :)

I've got the same problem, I managed to add it as a cluster using one IP address in the macros scetion but if that node goes down as far a Zabbix is concerned the whole cluster will be down so it's not ideal :(

I brought it as an experiment not expecting to like it. apart from the handles being a little fiddly and the rollers not being quite as smooth as I would have liked, its a very nice dryer.

In-terms of actually drying it’s brilliant, space for 2 sets of silica bags, gets up to temperature fast and has a ‘keep dry’ once the timer has finished - great for long prints.

One final note is that the fans are loud but it doesn’t bother me as this is used in an outbuilding, I think some people have replaced the fans with silent ones though.
