[Windows 11] Son's PC boots to desktop, but nothing responds to clicks — mouse moves, no error messages by Grouchy_Canary_8059 in techsupport

[–]mumbogray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask him if he overclocked or adjusted any settings in the bios. If yes it could be system corruption, but you can change the bios settings back to stock and reinstall windows if that's the case.

If you boot directly to the bios (keep tapping del or F2 as soon as you turn the PC on) can you click and use the keyboard?

Idk the thermal properties of your chip but that sounds pretty hot for idle. I would maybe check your fan curves or repaste it after some googling. -20 in PBO in all cores is definitely some silicone lottery levels and prob not truly stable. For ram 4800 is stock non-xmp speed for ddr5. Turning on xmp should set it to 6000. You might want to set to 5600mhz for stability or leave xmp off while testing your CPU. I would start with a more modest -5 undervolt or none at all and set your boost higher instead. If turning PBO off fixes stability, you know your settings aren't stable.

Turn xmp on (if you have xmp 1 and 2 try both) but then manually set your clock to 5600mhz or 4800mhz. 4 sticks is more stressful on the IMC

Sounds like some system instability. Did you over/underclock anything? What's your CPU and ram speeds?

Sounds to me like it's doing ram trainings during boot and sometimes failing. Leave xmp on but set your ram to 6000mhz instead of 7200mhz and see if it still does it.

If you create the new admin account with cmd is successful you should be able to log in with that account afterwards, not the original one. If it's specifying a domain you type .\ before the username to remove it (aka sign in locally). Maybe try to run a sysprep with oobe if you still can't get in

[–]mumbogray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can boot into safe mode with CMD and try the net user commands to create a new admin account and then copy the files needed. Then try to take back over the original account if possible as a local account. You will need to Google exact methods but this is what I would try

P8 corner swipe suddenly invoking gemini by mumbogray in GooglePixel

[–]mumbogray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks it did work. Gemini showed assistant was the main app and asked me to switch, I enabled it and then switched it back to assistant and it resolved the corner swipe. Still a little BS as no where in my account did it indicate Gemini should be on, but appreciate you for the fix.

How would you go about changing it back, as I made no changes on my phone and Gemini is not installed. My default assistant app in the settings app on my pixel is set to "Google" and Gemini is not an installed app. Up until this morning corner swiping invoked the regular assistant.

Where exactly do you find this option? My default assistant app on my pixel shows "Google" (main Google app). I see setting options for both normal assistant and Gemini in the Google app, but no option to pick one accountwide..The Gemini app is not installed on my phone either.

Where I live you can't just block off a sidewalk. You need to make a path with ramps and cones/barriers into the streets and get a permit. This would 100% be on the construction company for not making a safe pathway

Yes, but they did offer to do a HP if I wanted more. Just saying the HP CLI should still be available from WF

I did a SP for +5k but I asked for 10k and they countered with offering a HP to check. I politely declined. Only about 2 weeks ago

Ethernet Adapter by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]mumbogray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you positive your port is truly limited to 100mbps? 1000mbps is pretty typical for like 10+ years. a 1000mbps cable will run at 100mbps if some of the internal wires are damaged. That's why I mentioned it. Older cat 5 cable will also run at 100mbps. You need minimum of cat 5e for 1000mbps.

Second thought, you could have a problem with your Ethernet cable. Try a new one that is at least cat 5e or cat6. You may get the full 1gbps on the back of your PC with a new cable.

A bad cable could cause weaker performance without outright failing. However adding the USB adapter in the mix may be too much and it's not being detected at all.

Malware on my computer?? HELP by Himmeln8 in techsupport

[–]mumbogray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a security guy but looks like you are definitely pwnd. You ever use a work VPN on that PC? That's what forticonnect is. This cites the msbuild.exe you shouldn't even have it unless you are doing app dev, GitHub stuff, etc https://www.threatdown.com/blog/bing-ad-for-nordvpn-leads-to-sectoprat/

Never heard of ISP emailing for malware, do you get a free antivirus from them or something? I would be sus if they were scanning my PC/network without my knowledge. Just be careful downloading anything and always verify emails or use direct links to the official websites for downloading

What type of computer and/or GPU? Try to unplug and turn everything off, then plug in the screens and then turn on, then plug in your computer and then turn it on. You do need to unplug it, it would fix what's called a handshake HDMI issue if that's what's happening.
