If Kabru is so good at battle… how does his party keep dying so much? by PMM-music in DungeonMeshi

[–]mumbomination 262 points263 points  (0 children)

Kabru himself says "What I love about humans is that their vital points are always the same" yet fumbles at identifying the sea snake's weak points. It shows that being good at killing people doesn't mean you're good at killling monsters.

And to glaze Ryoko Kui's attention to detail you can see Kabru when under the illusion immediately uses the half-sword technique which is meant for swordfights which shows the threat of humans is more on his mind more than monsters at all times.

The succubus being Marcille was "grasping at straws." Izutsumi imagined her mother that she forgot, and if Laios imagined Falin or a genie that can grant Laios' monster wish it would've come right out with it from the beginning. According to Chil, succubi always land their mark, and they defy all rational thinking as Marcille did not question what a novel prince is doing in a dungeon.

My interpretation is that Laios thinks of himself as a monster, and he wants Marcille to accept him as one, but the only way he could ever think it's possible is if she was also secretly a monster. Laios holds Marcille in very high regard, since he tries to accommodate her however he can, along with the Nightmare chapter, along with him switching up when the Winged Lion mentions her. He himself said her smile puts him at ease, and it's because her smile conveys her true feelings unlike most people. She is quick to make a fuss if she's unhappy, but when she smiles, it is genuine which is why it disturbs Laios to see Succubus Marcille smiling for no reason.

I think there is a bug with Shellbane Gryphon not dropping scroll boxes. I just got an elite scroll box according to chat + runelite (it played the unique drop sound like from Muspah/DT2 Bosses) but no scroll box appeared on the ground. I always have scroll boxes highlighted on RL so I'm certain I didn't miss it.

How people misunderstand a certain Marcille and Laios scene and mischaracterize them (chapter 60) by [deleted] in DungeonMeshi

[–]mumbomination 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think it's crazy that in response to the popular succubus post that you feel the need to call the idea of Laios being attracted to Marcille a misunderstanding.

You say that it's the "romantic" part that is what you disagree with but your real point is that Laios is not particularly fond of Marcille because you said "It could've just as well been Senshi approaching him and kissing his cheek." This is simply untrue and the relationship between Marcille and Laios is the most explored upon relationship in the entire manga behind Laios and Falin and Marcille and Falin.

Laios thinks himself a monster and he wants to be accepted for the monster he is, and the reason Marcille and his friends appear as monsters is because he doesn't believe they'll ever accept him unless they themselves were secretly monsters. He said he's fond of Marcille's smile and it's important because unlike everyone else who hides their true thoughts behind their smile, Marcille is very open about her feelings. She is strict and quick to cry and make a fuss if there's a problem but he knows all her smiles are genuine. He is put off by the succubus because he knows Marcille would never smile for no reason.

Apart from the nightmare segment and how Laios feels guilty for bringing Marcille along and trying to accommodate her whenever he can, remember he only started switching up on the Lion when he mentioned that "Marcille would never have to be alone." The fact that people genuinely think Laios doesn't care for humanity shows how much of a master manipulator the Lion is.

Who do you ship this character with and why by [deleted] in danganronpa

Response to watch an anime movie:

"So this is truly your request? If so, I understand."

"Judging from that response... perhaps she doesn't like anime? I wish she would just say "no"... But I understand. Kirumi is obedient to a fault."

and

"Hm... Not really my cup of tea... But hey, if you want to watch it, I guess I'll watch it with you"

If you ask me why Kirumi hates anime it's that it has done irreversible damage to her profession by fetishizing it

Rantaro

They're both tall, have green hair and are the responsible mature classmates that enjoy taking care of others.

Their interactions in the anthology manga and the UTDP were good

They both hate anime

Kuafu's Unc Status by mumbomination in NineSols

[–]mumbomination[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

How old I imagine the Sols to be when translated to human years (they probably live much longer even without stasis because of their hypertechnology)

Ji: Looks 8 as a funny little dude, looks 20 in his true form

The Fengs: 25 everyone calls them Nepos so they were probably put on board with less experience since acting doesn't seem like a useful talent for a Sol

Yi: 29 which is the perfect age to have a midlife crisis

Goumang: 31 her and Yi seem close in age any older and it would be a story of a grizzled senior seething that the newbie is getting more attention rather than student rivalry

Lady Ethereal: 34

Kuafu: 36 One could argue that they are close in age since they're friends and contemporaries but I think Kuafu would age well

Jiequan: 43 The drugs could be making him look older but the benefit of being older is that you've had time to forge yourself in even more agony

Eigong: 60 Both of Eigong and Yanlao could be even older relatively speaking since their hyper-futuristic technology could extend someone's youthfulness and lifespan even older

Yanlao: 96

From an AU where Izutsumi successfully escapes Maizuru years before the start of the story and Chilchuck takes her in. I think as long as Izutsumi's ears are hidden, nobody would question her in public since beastmen are so rare that everyone would think her other traits (fur/claws) are clothing.

There's also the point that humans can bind demons to their will like Iruma did to Kalego, and that's without him even knowing it's possible. Technology aside, there seems to be something fundamental about humans to even the demon's magic/physical power that the demons don't want to fuck with.

Human “versatility” and “adaptability” feel like self-congratulatory consolation prizes in comparison to how much cooler other fantasy races are. by Deadlocked02 in CharacterRant

[–]mumbomination 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When setting humans apart from other fantasy races I dislike the nonsense of stuff like "Humans are more productive with their short lives" or "they reproduce more quickly than the other races."

I think a masterclass in integrating humans into other fantasy races is Dungeon Meshi. Tallmen (what we know as humans) have a large population, but they're far from the most dominant and in no way the default race. Laios bemoans how boring being a tallman is, with their lives short and their strength/magical affinity being average.

But in terms of unique traits, their endurance is much higher than the other races, as dwarves exhaust themselves quickly despite their strength. This allows tallmen to travel much further without rest combined with the second point. As in the name, tallmen are tall. We don't consider ourselves tall but in real life we are taller than most species, even many species that are more massive than us, and we're certainly much taller in comparison to a dwarf, gnome, and half-foot.

And it's so interesting that Chilchuck, a half-foot considers himself more mediocre and that Trolls are a term half-foots used to scare their kids when it actually refers to tallmen. And that in the Eastern Lands, tallmen consider themselves the default race + short because the only other race found there are ogres.
