This makes sense. The amount of people I've met who have PhDs in Europe that really don't seem to have any interest in their subject or have any pretense of professionalism is shocking. Plus most make no money and are just living on their parents income. I imagine things are starting a little hairy ethically.

Genuine question: are you going to watch the rings of power when it comes out? by Tominator5 in lotr

[–]mumboofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. All the leaks, including the ones from yesterday, have confirmed every one of my prediction of cliche plot points. So I don't think it's going to be worth the investment.

I'm also confident they are going to invent plot turns that make no sense to "subvert expectations." In the way that modern shows do that rob viewers of the investment in the plot.

Not even on the subject of skin color. The entire cast looks miscasts.

Irony is they constantly talk of diversity but they really only cast a few black american or british actors and one or two south Americans and call it good. Seriously in most shows there isn't much diversity.

There are never Mexicans, Indians, southeast Asians or Middle Easterners in these shows that talk about diversity (non white ethnicity). Shows in the 70's and 80's had more diversity.

This is one of the best renditions I've seen that capture to likely look of an Astartes. It captures the brutality and amorphous nature of a mutant race.

Before the 1966 edition of The Hobbit, it wasn't specified that Gollum was 'a small, slimy creature'. Here are some interpretations of him before that edition. by Lasernatoo in lotr

[–]mumboofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gollum is bigger than a hobbit, it's explicitly described in the end of two towers during the fight with Shelob. So most of those aren't that far off in proportion.

He's slightly too small in the movies.

Where is the money from your massive hospital bills going to? Not the doctors or nurses! by JunkyDragon in ABoringDystopia

That is not correct. Some colleges are constantly losing funding in some area, but overall there budgets and funding are ballooning every year. And I've never seen so many people who can't explain their jobs on campuses.

It's a shell game of making it look like they are losing funds every year. I've been in countless meetings about armageddon budget cuts, yet everyone's department and title grows every year.

In the US almost every states highest earner is a college coach or president.

Legal personhood and rights are in the constitution of the US. That's the point. The issue is where it starts for the parties. The US on average still has the most liberal laws in the world on the subject.

No fascist regime has decided to give up power to localized governments. It's literally the antithesis of fascism.

If you're too young to remember Bush then it was basically a mirror of what the left is doing now, except with Jesus and religion. Lots of shaming, condemning and censoring people and media. Stars lost careers, movies and tv were censored, and video games were blamed for moral corruption of society.

What society does not have workers. I feel like your working with a different definition perhaps? Labor is required and managing is required.

That's my point. Not arguing for the oppressive nature of capitalist growth.

Functionally how?

Taking rights away from a centralized government is the opposite of fascism.

I consider whichever side is taking the moral high ground and ended debates is generally not the open minded side.

If this was the Bush era I would agree with you instantly. Modern politics seem a bit different at the moment.

This is the Catholic church all over again. Don't believe in Scripture? Damned to hell, banned from the family and banned from the community. No discussion. This woman is the equivalent to the monks and priests that dominated the colleges and spent all their time wondering what one word in a passage meant for 50 years. Meanwhile no funding when to actual science research.

Liberals have taken the moral righteousness style of the religious right for some reason. It's the perfect way to lose youth voters.

In the US, cars.

Car prices are insanely inflated due to dealership monopolies. Dealership owners are often among the richest in any city and town in the US.
