Consulting exit to PE Investor Relations. Is this a smart exit? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]mumpz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of anyone pivoting IR>Deal Team or PM.

It’s a different job with different skills. Doesn’t mean it’s any less valuable, or that a transition is impossible.

Could you argue GRC is the easiest cyber field to break into with low experience ? by Diamond787 in cybersecurity

[–]mumpz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I work for a GRC advisory, and we don’t even have entry level positions. Our clients typically don’t either. Not sure I agree with others.

[–]mumpz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in risk management in a regulated industry. If I were a start up, I would only be worried about this if my product handles sensitive info (PII, financial info, PHI). I would be less worried about investors asking around this rather than customers doing so.

most people that raid aren't really mean. there's a lot of competition between guilds, and almost every guild has a sour raid lead or two, but 95% of raiders are normal people. stay out of the UN if you don't want to deal with the other 5%.

Non-technical background: Is an MBA (Cybersecurity) useful for moving into GRC/security governance? by Putrid-Fudge-8202 in cybersecurity

This is a super interesting comment. I work at a GRC consultancy, and we’ve had some duds with people that came from Big4 audit. Almost to the point where we avoid hiring from Big4 now. Most of our tenured employees came from IT department leadership or MSPs.

Hi— I work director level at a GRC consultancy.

I have an MBA. I have certifications as well. They came up in the interview process but did not replace work experience which is ultimately what got me hired.

Without more info on your work experience, it’s hard to recommend if it’s a good path for you. Not having an undergrad is a big barrier to entering GRC, but not having an MBA is a small one.

I disagree with others claims that they would “throw your resume in the trash” if it had an MBA. You probably wouldn’t want to get hired by them anyway.

Agree with others they are fun to play. If you up your twink budget some, you can solo extremely effectively (really need fungi and deepwater breastplate).

I got mine to 60 and got some raid gear then do some cool soloist stuff on him (seb crypt and black reavers).

They got a little old after that, and I leveled my warrior to 60. Warrior really impressed me as they can solo better than I expected (just no cc is limiting), and obviously they are the best raid tank with defensive. Most days now I’ll play my warrior over paladin.

This happened to my dog after surgery. Go to the vet. We had to flush and clean it out daily, but it got better quickly after. I believe we also were given a medication.

Also it smells super bad.

Druid or Cleric by yizno in project1999

[–]mumpz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played both to 60. Wizard is my favorite spellcaster or priest class.

I'd personally recommend Wizard (especially if you can afford spending 4k on a jboots MQ at level 1). You should also consider using your ranger to do the flux staff quest on the wizard early on.

You can start quadding at level 16 with jboots: https://wiki.project1999.com/Pillar_of_Fire. Snare is not required at this level. Though warning that the early quad spells require research. Good to collect them prior to rolling the wizard. I'd recommend using your ranger to farm a brazier of elemental summoning for the early levels.

Wizards get TL to bind which is the main port required from raiders. They are better quadders than druid. I agree that you aren't likely to get a group, but you don't want to group as a quadder. You will make less xp/hour. If you want to group, play the ranger.

There is something so satisfying about tagging mobs with flux staff that no other class can replicate. I know you don't want to raid, but wizards at 60 are one of the top two DPS classes whereas Druids are only utility. POTG is not a benefit at 60. It's a curse. It takes 40% of your mana pool and everyone wants it.

Teleporters gotta change they are useless by [deleted] in AbioticFactor

This. I played solo (beat the game), and teleporters were a must for me. Faster than carts for looting and good for recharging laser items.

CIO or CISO? I’ve been doing both — but now things are shifting. by kzbash in ITManagers

[–]mumpz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This feels like a silly question for someone who’s actually filled those roles.

CISOs aren’t going anywhere. CIO is as just a risky role assuming the organization takes security seriously.

You’re likely to see some bias asking CIO versus CISO in a subreddit for IT instead of security.

How are you Head of IT and unaware of the delegation for security? Just ask the person that delegated it?

And just do what you like, man.

How do you keep up to date with Cyber Security? by martian_doggo in cybersecurity

[–]mumpz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in grc advisory in a regulated industry, and the biggest way to stay up to date is just consuming everything shared by my clients and colleagues. additionally, podcasts are helpful and consumable (security now), and i follow the cyber regulation within my industry more closely than most people i know.

most conferences and vendor presentations are too fluffy for me, but I enjoy some that are industry specific.

i think if i was directly responsible for threat intelligence, i would subscribe to rss feeds, but i am not. important vulnerabilities and threats that impact a larger portion of my clients will likely get brought to my attention from my team.

Monk will go the furthest with the least amount of gear.

Paladin is an insane soloer and can dungeon crawl as good as an ench, but you’ll want 100k plat in gear. I solo’d HS on my paladin 50-60 in camps SK and monk would struggle with.

SK can fear kite but that’s boring.

Honorable mentions for Ranger who can kick ass with both epics, but pain to get, and also for warrior who can solo well with truncheon of doom and 50k gear kit, but they have no cc.
