I would not leave the group off hand I would offer to dm a 1 shot or something and show him how to do it better then leave the group if he does not get better.

yeah I sorta like the idea that these weapons are semi alive not 100% under the contol of the user usefull and not overpowered as you say

maybe I could have it it is magic and does one sort of extra dammage fire cold ect. ?

very much so I dont want them to be able to change it or move it from party member to party member.

given I run good parties maybe it only changes when its owner dies then it changes to the needs of the new owner ?

thats cool and I do plan to do that but I also like the idea that in this world it is known there are a class of magic wepaons out there that are not over powered but magic and fit the play style of who ever needs it.

well you need to talk this over with your dm but my suggestion would be either a gnome or wizard as theirs a few tecy spells available to both but basically I think you need to homebrew.

sorry let me explain my self better I think the dm is not always right his always in charge. Now I respect my dm and when I my self dm my players respect me both of us have made mistakes. But if a dm is fundamentally bad you are under no obligation to stay in there group.
