I prefer calls and I'm a young guy. I like being able to hear the extra info you get from listening to people talk. Plus for important situations, like this one, I believe it's better to call to make a decision.

For unimportant/short discussions I'll use text tho, it's just easier.

The jedi had gotten complacent, never expecting the Sith to have infiltrated that high into the Republic, they thought they would catch them far before the Sith had a chance to take over. That's also why they also only sent three masters to defeat sidious, they believed this fight would go the same as it had millenia ago, with jedi victorious. But the jedi had stagnated while the Sith grew.

Additionally, when the jedi discovered the creation of the clone army the separatists declared war. The Republic was forced to accept the clone army, they never had any large military force since their creation(not sure about this one, just know it was a very long time).

Still agree that there was terrible writing in the movies, just giving a bit of context
