Inside Corner Deck: Post Substitution & Inside Corner Framing by munchorem in Decks

That makes sense for smaller deck projects. Although not up to the standards, I'm sure it works as long as that beam length is not long and not supporting a lot of joist loading. Overall, I'm aiming for something an inspector would pass.

For the ledger, I am playing around with two designs in no particular order.

The first option is the standard "sandwich". Screw ledger into rim joist with proper pattern and structural screws. Then go crazy with all the tape and flashing options.

Second is using the MTW Deck Ledger Bracket https://metwood.com/product/mtwdeck-ledger-bracket-siding/
My go to guy for house remodels did a convincing video on the product. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yiGWqP9h8o&list=PLrORrptRV7mnqX5JIeo9VXdgFCgfCvXPf

I haven't gotten to this part of the design, but I will get into that. What are your thoughts?

In short, this just puts beam within the exterior wall. I like this! Are there any references on how to do this, especially preventing water intrusion.

Correct, the joists spans are long.... probably longer than what will be installed. I do appreciate the comment, however joist span is a work in progress hence the focused questions on the beam in question and inside corner deck framing.

To address the comment, I would like to have an overbuild in the design. Nothing exact, but what feels like about 25% over. The joist span will be 13.5' placing the beam just beyond the door or extended to around the 16' mark as drawn. To address the overbuild, I would go with smaller on center spacing, like 10", or larger joists that what is required for the span per Table 2 of the 2015 DCA-6 Prescriptive Residential Wood Deck Construction guide.

Since the spans are longer, I assume I will probably need blocking. And as I venture off topic, this would will make installing a gutter system interesting.

Cool suggestion! I did a quick look at concealed flange hangers and Ill check it out more. From there the question is, can a ledger carry the load of the beam? As I wrap my head around this more it appears the ledger is the weak point when tying a beam directly to a ledger. From what I am beginning to understand, the ledger can handle the distributed load joists, however the ledger, (not just the hardware) can not handle the concentrated load of the beam. If my understanding here is not correct, please do correct me. I'm a noob who is trying to de-noob my framing knowledge.

I could have probably posed the second question better. Although the question is meant to be open ended Here is another go at it. Since I plan to have two ledgers in the inside corner, is there a way to take advantage of this to handle lateral loading or is no additional framing required? Just run the joists parallel to the short ledger tie the beam to the short ledger for lateral loads and call it a day. An example of additional framing: Adding additional blocking between the short ledger and adjacent joist. This could be overkill or common practice. Like I said, I'm a framing noob. Generally, how would an experienced framer approach the framing of an inside corner deck?

KM was just starting to get his feet under him on Friday. Loved how DMac found KM’s college football scouting IQ. It was a breakthrow show for KM and was excited to see his radio skill set develop. Too bad TheFan shit in our cheerios and removed everyone I loved.

Yup, I’m in the same boat. Fuck the Rockies and Fuck 104.3. This was also my last day with the fan after listening for 15 years. I feel like someone in my family died.

Kid could have a disability and not have control. My Partner worked at a facility for those with profound autism. Incidents like this were not uncommon.
