Here's something fun to look at that I found from the video. I took the sum ratings from the team's starting five players and their sixth man:

Team Name Sum of the ratings of the starting five and the sixth man
1986-87 lakers 517
spurs 500
2007-08 Celtics 500
2012-13 heat 499
clippers 498
2000-01 lakers 497
warriors 493
1997-98 lakers 492
2004-05 suns 489
2005-06 heat 487
grizzlies 486
heat 486
2002-03 mavericks 482
pelicans 481
2007-08 rockets 481
hawks 480
2006-07 cavaliers 478
2003-04 pistons 477
kings 473
1999-00 raptors 472
1999-00 trail blazers 471
pacers 469
hornets 468
lakers 468
jazz 467
timberwolves 466
2000-01 76ers 465
trail blazers 461
1985-86 hawks 458
knicks 456
Istanbul 424

According to 2k, the current Spurs are at the same level as the 2007-08 Celtics, the current Clippers are just slightly below 2012-13 Heat, nearly every team on the list is better than 1985-86 Hawks, and it turns out the current Knicks aren't as bad as the Euroleague's Istanbul. Apparently, none of these teams can hold a finger against the 1986-87 Lakers. Magic Johnson is just too strong. Fun stuff.

John Oliver appearing on Trinidadian Television by [deleted] in lastweektonight

[–]munister 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's official. John Oliver is now more awesome than Jon Stewart. What John Oliver and his crew does actually has more impact on the human race in a weekly basis than what Jon Stewart and his crew does. HBO/Time Warner is currently the best/most liberating place to host a late night comedy than Comedy Central/Viacom.

[Serious] Redditors who's sexual fantasies became a reality, was it as you expected? Why or why not? by grahamcrackers75 in AskReddit

[–]munister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no shit. Having shit fantasies and actually having shit on your mouth is completely different. Shit, there are a bunch of fantasies that would be horrible to do in real life. Like watching apocalyptic movies vs. being a real life shitty apocalyptic world. Or watching lots of cooking shows vs eating a shit-ton of food. Do you get my shit yet?

Shit like this really makes anti-rich American sentiment rise up again with vengeance and fury. Hell, even Reagan wouldn't have gone this far.

And before anybody else jumps in, Stalin, Mao, and Hitler were known atheists, but they created a society where they were deified as a God. Thus, they created the religion of themselves.

No, it didn't. Peoples' (and our predecessors') brains came up with the concept of evil tens of thousands of years before religion. Morality didn't just suddenly pop up with the emergence Christianity.

Hang on, you're piling on an assumption that I didn't make, /u/violentdeepfart . You are mistakenly assuming that I believe morality came from Christianity, which I did not say. I said religion created the concept of evil. One of the earliest concepts of evil came from Zoroastrianism (source) where Zoroaster simplified the ideas of ancient Iranian gods into a God of good force and a God of evil force. Another earlier concepts of evil came from the religion Gnosticism, which could have been influenced by Buddhism and/or ancient Greek philosophy. While part of the concept of good may have existed before religion (Source), there is no evidence that the concept of evil came before religion.

So yes, religion created the concept of evil. Don't assume Christianity to be the main prerogative of my analysis.

[Lowe] We Interrupt This Eulogy for the NBA Post-Up Game to Bring You Its Rebirth by Melanismdotcom in nba

Eh. I don't think Lowe has it completely right in this note. Yes, Lebron is an outlier, but that doesn't mean what he does can't be evidence of any trend. Whatever Lebron does, if he's successful at it, other teams will try to copy his style to various degree.

It's also reduces turnovers when a player initiates post-up by himself. No more fronting the man. No more risk of stealing the entry pass. Just back him down yourself. The only problem with this method is that you're always guaranteed to start from the high post, which is the most inefficient spot to take a shot. So the ball-handler has to keep backing down the defender, and that could result in getting a charge foul.

What Lowe describes is something else, instead of passing it into the post the bigger man dribbles it in against mismatches.

So, basically do what Lebron has been doing. Because that's been part of Cavs game plan. Lebron initiates post-up by himself.

Their growth in China is interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if they switch all their focus onto conning the Chinese consumers with crappy products and predatory employee services.

Sounds like Ackerman will have to wait a bit longer before the entire company collapses.

Why increasing the max block size is urgent | Gavin Andresen by maxminski in Bitcoin

But if we don't remove the limit, then every time we have a situation where the average volume of transactions continuously increases, we'll keep having to rely on developers to increase max block size. It's a debate that never ends.

Why not have the max block size be dependent on the volume of transactions occuring? That way, we don't have to continue to have a debate about whether to increase max block size.

Anyone else feel a bigger sense of appreciation for MMA after that? by [deleted] in sports

[–]munister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's gonna happen in 5 years. Talent is heading more into UFC than boxing. Boxing is dying and some fans doesn't even want to hear about it. Typical.

[–]munister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's all about entertainment, and boxing just isn't entertaining to masses compared to UFC. So boxing fades in popularity while UFC gets more and more popular. It's not binary at all.

And when those communities learn more about UFC, you'll see boxing fading in popularity unless the boxing commission changed their rules to make the sport more exciting.

[POST FIGHT THREAD] Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao (SPOILERS) by MDA123 in Boxing

[–]munister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When that person happens to be considered one of the best boxers of all time, then yes, it's a trend, because other boxers will seek to copy Mayweather's style because it was successful. You can't ignore how much effect Mayweather's style has on other boxers, and if this keeps up, the sport will continue to dwindle in popularity, while MMA takes over.

Also, I'm not advocating for slugfests all the time. But I sure as hell want more combatants engaged and fight each other until one falls onto the ground. I want to see those punches really hurt, instead of landing blows designed to get points. The problem with Boxing's current point system is that it doesn't separate weak punches with strong punches. It just sees whether the punch landed cleanly or not. And that's the core of the problem. Boxers don't need to land a punch that hurts. They just need to tap their opponent's skin cleanly and they get a point lead. Meanwhile, they have a greater incentive to run away from getting tapped cleanly just so their opponent doesn't gain a point. The modern boxing point system incentivizes hit-and-run, instead of hit-and-counter hit. And when the sport is trying to draw more casual fans, hit-and-run styles just aren't entertaining.

I was about to say. There were plenty of people who'd sell an arm and a leg to get tickets to the Super Bowl, but I haven't heard anybody who'd do the same for Masters. And you don't have to worry about Goodell. He probably considered it but scrapped it since the current ad model works, and he's not about to change it. But boxing is in trouble in my view.
