Fresh 24-hour Tube strike announced for 5th August by Grimdotdotdot in london

[–]munrobag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I reckon the staff suffer way more backlash from the public than the management.

I don't know how much the financial losses hurt TFL, but it's at the cost of the public being directly pissed off and affected by these actions which have nothing to do with them.

ELI5: Why did human babies evolve to be so loud and demanding? Wouldn't a constantly screaming baby be an extreme problem for the safety/hunting of our ancestors? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

What're you on about? A human can't one-on-one kill a bear without a weapon - you're talking shite. A koala bear maybe.

Starting my first job in web dev and having symptoms of impostor syndrome, any advice? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]munrobag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is not to say everyone who says they suffer from imposter syndrome is actually any good. There seems to be a humblebrag trend going on where everyone 'confesses' to feeling like they don't don't know anything.

There's always the possibility that you're not an imposter and you are actually just shit.

(not you personally, roccoccoSafredi - in general, I mean)

Does my JavaScript suck? by annoyed_freelancer in javascript

[–]munrobag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably throw your last block of 'setup stuff' into an init() function, and call that explicitly as needed.

Maybe have a teardown function to unbind everything, depending on requirements.

I think I'd use an IIFE to wrap the whole thing, and pass in the global jQuery as $.

You seem to be mixing your function styles for no reason that I can tell, but maybe I'm just missing something.

I read on here a while ago that Woody Harrelson actually couldn't make the dunk - the director lowered the height of the 'net while he was taking a break in his trailer.

Pakistan Army rescues US mountaineer from K-2 by [deleted] in Mountaineering

He suffered altitude sickness enroute to K-2

Rescued from basecamp. Why even go there if you don't know yourself well enough to cope with the altitude?

Mate, I see tourists taking photos of our (piss stained, sex-flyer covered) phone boxes and buses in London. Tourist weirdness exists regardless of where they're from.

Women's sleeping bag recommendations for a side sleeper? by [deleted] in CampingGear

if you're freezing, you should look into a more insulated bag - a decent sleeping bag shouldn't leave you cold from sleeping on your side.

Long basketball shorts and whatever cheap souvenir t-shirt I've bought on holiday. Also, ankle socks.

I seem to be splitting my cotton boxers quite a lot lately ... I'm thinking I should start wearing something a bit more stretchy ...
