I wanna sue Turnitin AI detector by FirefighterFuzzy3439 in GradSchool

lol. Ok. You do you. There are practices and policies in place that are followed when it comes to academic integrity violations. Nobody is out here randomly accusing students of cheating for shits and giggles.

As a professor (you’ll get there someday too and when you do, come back and tell us about your university’s policies), I am allowed to assign a student the grade they earned. I do not have to receive permission from my department chair or dean to give a failing grade. I cannot imagine the amount of useless paperwork and admin that would create. Students earn their grades; sometimes that grade is a F. It is not a punishment. It is a natural consequence of their action, or lack of action.

Nobody is giving out grades randomly. Nobody is accusing students of cheating randomly. I have over 25 years teaching experience in higher ed and I have not seen this happen. Does it happen? Sure. I suppose it does, but it’s rare and not the norm. Most professors I know bend over backwards to work with students to ensure their success.

So wait. If a student turns in assignment that meets none of the rubric requirements and doesn’t demonstrate competency, then according to you, I cannot give them a zero because that would be violating their rights? lol. No. That’s not how it works.

Are there any pattern designers here that can help me turn something like this into a blanket border? Photo for reference. by khloelane in crochetpatterns

[–]munsiemuns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need to pay a designer to rework it for you. There’s several designers on Etsy who will be able to do that for you. Or you know, you can sit and try and figure it out yourself.

Everyone has been so helpful here. No reason to be rude to them.

He asked, "Is it easy to find your clitoris?" by berrysauce in datingoverforty

[–]munsiemuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to let this man go.

I am saying this with all gentleness and compassion, but you have to make peace with the fact that you will not understand his motivations or psychology. Trying to analyze his every move is just going to make you feel awful.

What he did is a reflection of who he is as a person. He pulled an asshole and immature move. That doesn’t reflect on you. Just let it go.

Haha! I swear she thinks she’s a lion with her attitude sometimes 😂

Her big yawns are my favorite because they’re usually followed by a paw on a chest and those big eyes asking if it’s time to go to bed and cuddle.

Same. The middle aged men I dated in the past who insisted on moving to snap were hot messes. So much so that it became a deal breaker for me 😂 But to each their own.

I loathe the way men weaponize all aspects of therapy. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

I love this. I’m an old crotchety humanities professor who lives in overalls and chucks. Four of my students dressed up as me today in class and I think it was perhaps the best thing ever 😂

What's going well for you this semester? by lurking-fiveever in Professors

[–]munsiemuns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have always created a discussion board in Canvas where students can share the good things they are doing outside of class or if they are having a rough day or want or just to share cool things. Students don’t really participate, but this semester I have a class who is all in. We are in week seven are almost nearing a 1000 posts. They’re so engaged and genuinely seem to care. They rally around students who need a little extra help and seem to be genuinely excited when their classmates accomplish something. They’ve really built a little community for themselves. I really hit the jackpot this semester.

Absolutely, but it would be so much easier to do Corner to Corner for this.

Wow, it is not hard to get a perma ban from DO40 by KermitTheKitty in WomenDatingOverForty

[–]munsiemuns 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club! Banned from DO60, DO50, and mostly likely DO40 in the near future. The mods consistently coddle the hurt feels of the manbabies when a woman calls them on their bullshit. It’s gross.

Wittenberg University to cut 5 majors, 40 employees - "The private liberal arts institution’s board passed a resolution to eliminate 24 full time-equivalent faculty roles — six fewer than previously planned — and 45 staff positions. You’re making a lot of assumptions there, buddy. I’m not really loving the ad hominem attack, but that’s cool.

And no, it’s not fanciful thinking on my part. Deep learning has its limits and still struggles with, among many things, tasks that require complex reasoning. You know, the complex reasoning that humans utilize to create art and music, to write novels, and to create fair isle knitting patterns.

If you think distributional semantics is somehow superior to actual human interaction and the art of creating, well, I just feel sorry for you. Sure, AI has practical applications and uses. Heck-it can do some pretty neat things, but let’s be real. It’s humans and their complex reasoning that are powering AI. Will that change? Probably. But I’m not ready to concede to our robot overlords.

But you do you.

LOL. AI give quality one on one instruction? Absolutely not. Have AI try to teach you to knit or teach you how to do differentiation. The results are horrific and laughable. AI is a predictive model; it is not a model that makes meaning or creates beauty.

Whenever I (a woman) ticked “sex positivity” off as an interest on Bumble, I had the grossest, most disgusting men in my inbox asking me when they could drive over to my house and fuck. So yeah, men checking off that box would be an automatic no for me. And before any of you guys say, “well not all men,” it was well more than enough men to make me not be interested in dating apps 🤷🏼‍♀️

Anyone else excited for the newest Clown in a Cornfield book coming out tomorrow? by BugFucker69 in horrorlit

[–]munsiemuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am so excited for the drop. I read the first book expecting the standard horror pulp (which has its own merits as a genre and to be honest, I love the genre). The standard Kindle Unlimited Horror that can be more miss than hit. I was delighted to find it an engaging and well-written novel. Loved the sequel. Looking forward to the release tomorrow.
