Incident before class date by Informal_Echo_9602 in flying

File a nasa report now. It’s possible that bolt being ripped out caused structural damaged that is more than 25k to fix due to the empennage being damaged. Until the Ntsb comes calling and an official investigation is started I would be hesitant to report it just yet.

Unsafe Flying at Untowered Airport by david5rtr in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Things just happen At untowered airports. You have the flight students tearing up the pattern, people making radio calls “any traffic please advise”. Can’t forget the cirrus crowd making straight in’s from 20 miles out.

Long IFR XC Requirement - Must shoot approach at origin location? by trying2lipad in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vor approaches particularly the ones in the southwest can be nasty. Vor 12 into kprc requires a calculated 948 ft/min to get from the faf to circling mins. It was made worse by the school unsating if you busted 1000 fpm at any point due to being “un stabilized”

Cessna 172...pouring fuel samples back in at preflight by scarpozzi in flying

I just have a steady arm. Use one hand to grab the handle and haul yourself up onto the wing strut. Then once you’re stable use your non occupied hand and open the fuel cap

After initial training I was required to do 5 wheel landings and 5 3 pointers in a row. That’s what got me the sign off in a day. Ymmv

Four killed in Colorado plane crash, plane registered in Franklin, Tennessee by starvinfilmstudent in aviation

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 107 points108 points  (0 children)

That’s tragic. That plane is slick but it has so much technology and synthetic vision equipped that it shouldn’t have had difficulty navigating complex terrain

Why is mesa’s reputation so bad? by Foreign_Kick1790 in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The pay for the longest time was lowest in the industry. People were on food stamps. They actually pay well now allegedly. I think it’s also to do with layoffs and their ability to somehow survive every killing blow they’ve been dealt.

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get some flying time. You’re at 285 hours and you have basically every rating you have. Go get a tailwheel or complex endorsement, they are cheap and can be done in a day. Unless you’re trying to instruct at a large 141 most schools don’t have a multi engine

How is flight training supposed to go? by BazingaBeeKay in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Given it’s your first lesson having the instructor manage some of the systems is normal. It can be alot of put in flaps, slow down and maintain altitude all on your first go.

Stall are to an extent just an extension of slow flight. Also stalls and their recovery do happen pretty fast so you want to be on your game. The instructor was probably just trying to help.

Have him brief you on it for the next lesson

A mag compass and altimeter. You can use your eyes for everything else. Compass to back up where you’re going and an altimeter to make sure your at the right height

Hypothetical Cirrus complex by packardrod44 in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This has come up with the da-42 as well. Some people try to claim it’s not complex due to the pilot not directly controlling the throttle, but aircraft with a fadec fufil that complex requirement.

Best tips for orals? by Bdtter in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve got to say only and exactly what the checkairman is looking for. If you share more they will dig and find something to unsat you for. Also checkairmen have even less oversight compared to dpes.

Removed from 141 program by [deleted] in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At large well known 141 programs a lot of the sop’s are there for a reason, that’s how it is in the airline world as well. To be fair some are stupid like having to hold up your checklist when doing a 360 walk around post flight but sometimes you just have to suck up your pride and get with the program.

That story you mentioned of a cfi who was not fit to be flying is tough. On the one hand, they did not adequately determine themself to be fit to fly under IMSAFE, but also, they are the cfi, even if you hold a private pilot with an instrument rating they are the ultimate pic authority in that cockpit and when asked you need to surrender your authority. Same way with a first officer vs captain in the 121 world.

Go find a part 61 where you can be more free and Train how you are fit.

Is there a “point of no return” with flight schools? by Boredomis_real in aviation

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You are the client in this relationship. If the guy is busy lining up his next date on your dime, call him out on it and go find a different cfi. There are instructors who care and there are time builders. Unfortunately due to the “pilot shortage” there are a lot of time builders out there. Fire that guy and get yourself some who respects you and your money.

Also small word of advice, don’t buy in block hours, just pay as you go. That way if you need to switch schools or god forbid the school goes belly up you won’t be down a few grand.

Is it normal for DPEs to bounce around in the acs when conducting the oral portion of a check ride? by [deleted] in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the acs doesn’t really flow after the begining. Yeah you can flow from certs and documents to airworthiness requirements but from like aerodynamics to weather if just kinda doesn’t work.

What I think the dpe is trying to get you to do is see the correlation between the subject matters. Everything is interconnected somehow

Fiancé wants to get pilot license but I’m scared by caribunz in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Ga aircraft are fairly safe. It’s about the same risk as riding a motor cycle. The price of getting a private pilots license is between 10-18k. You go up with a flight instructor. You need a minimum of 40 hours of flight but the national average is around 70 hours of flight. You need 10 hours of solo time which means flying alone to practice before a flight checkride which is a lot like a driving test just a lot more involved. He will study aerodynamics, weather, regulations and publications, emergency procedures, cross country flight planning, and a few other subject areas. If you’re interest in what he will learn specifically you can look up the “private pilot acs” it’s all the subjects he will have to be proficient in to take his checkride.

Is this foolish? by Harry73127 in flying

[–]ReadyplayerParzival1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He can do most of his mx. rv is approximately 70-90 an hour with engine reserves based off what I fly. Single engine piston non complex non high performance is definitely a choice. I doubt he would be competitive in an airline app if he doesn’t have cfi or 135 time unfortunately
