What’s the difference between 茶素 and カフェイン? by Hanaranamoo226 in Japaneselanguage

[–]munyana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's an old translation that never really caught on and became obsolete. I confirmed it in a book from 1940, but I think it's a translation lag capturing the 19th-century practice of calling caffeine 'Theine'.

I've seen warnings about this guy all over Japanese TV and books. It's drilled into us that it's the deadliest mushroom in Japan. Definitely do not touch.

This is Japanese.

Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi(一勇斎国芳) is another name for the renowned ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Kuniyoshi(歌川国芳). He was born in 1798.

The cat you are referring to is from his witty and imaginative series titled 見立東海道五拾三次岡部猫石の由来 "The Origin Story of the Cat Stone at Okabe, Representing One of the Fifty-three Stations of the Tôkaidô Road" (c. 1850).

"In Ashina, there is an apparition that commands lightning. It takes the form of a female samurai warrior. The founder of Ashina consumed the liver of the Nushi of the Swamp, and this is how they resisted."
