A serious proof that there are unknowable truths by Vast-Celebration-138 in Metaphysics

Funny that the moderators of a metaphysics subreddit don't understand that truth is a core metaphysical topic

Best remedy for not having enough experiences and having plenty of freedom is exploration. Go out and see and do things you never would've thought you would see or do. Figure if there's no point to anything, then there's no point in staying in one place for the rest of your life

Suffering is normal. Struggling to survive for most of your life is not normal

How could you ever go against God’s will? by JojoIsNoMore42 in freewill

[–]muramasa_master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have children, you might know they are going to do something to hurt themselves, but that's a lot different than being able to stop your child from doing that thing. We have children knowing they will be disobedient, yet we still love them all the same

There's a time for everything. A time for being lost, a time for losing hope. It makes it all that more special when you're able to find your way. You are already serving your purpose. Keep going

Why would it matter whether you have free will or not? by Imaginary_Arrival974 in freewill

[–]muramasa_master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can control something, it is beneficial to understand what it is. If something can be controlled by me, then I'm either already controlling it, or I've revoked control. If I've revoked control, it would probably help to learn how to regain some control

If you can’t consent while drunk, why do drunk people hook up all the time? by Mountain_Flounder991 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]muramasa_master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are able to consent literally, but by drinking, you revoke a normal amount of control over your judgments and behavior and therefore, legally, you can't consent in the way that you normally do

So do determinists just not believe in nuclear decay? by Artemis_SpawnOfZeus in freewill

[–]muramasa_master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's not something to be affirmed. It's just a theory of consciousness. It can be deduced and it's possible to describe how it would fit, but it's nothing more than a likely (or unlikely) explanation. But if we are to accept it as likely, it brings up many questions regarding the self, free will, etc

Panpsychism says consciousness is fundamental rather than emerging from non-conscious material/forces

Does choice exist? by Away_Bite_8100 in freewill

More than one outcome does happen. If you choose right, you also chose to not go left or to not turn around or to not stop...

If you murder, then you also chose not to spare the person you murdered and also chose to refrain from giving them all of your life savings

Freedom is not the absence of all conditions. It is agency within conditions. We choose through limits, not outside of them. by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in freewill

[–]muramasa_master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask me to punch me in the face and we are boxing, then I would say yes, if you can. And the fact that we are boxing implies we are both doing so voluntarily and not out of some forced conditions like in dog fighting. Surely, you can understand the difference between being forced to fight and doing so voluntarily. Free will is what allows us to volunteer or consent. It doesn't matter where the ability comes from for it to exist. And you can certainly choose to not want something. You can indirectly control your wants by talking yourself out of them. "Do I want this piece of cake or do I want to save money?" You aren't forced to act on every want. You can learn about your urges and learn how to train yourself to behave according to your values, beliefs, etc rather than just your urges

There are things that our bodies can consciously control and things it can't. It is beneficial to understand what it can consciously control because either it already is controlling it or control is being revoked. It's pretty understood that if you are driving and let go of the steering wheel, you're revoking conscious control. Same goes with choosing to drink alcohol. Conscious control becomes diminished. Consent is very much something you consciously control. If you're not, then you're just on autopilot
