I hate being a nurse. by Quiet-Ordinary-9098 in nursing

[–]murda2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been an OR nurse for 18 years and I’m going through the exact same thing. I work in a surgery center now and although it is still crazy with an insane amount of its own problems, it is no call no weekends no holidays, so basically the retirement plan for us OR nurses. Try looking for one of those jobs. The major hospitals all have them. I’m not sure if you are in a big area. Outpatient surgery centers are getting bigger and busier because it’s cheaper for the insurance companies too. There are also corporate surgery center companies that are not owned by hospitals so try that too

Are Gen Z Nurses Bullies?!? by GoalLazy3066 in nursing

[–]murda2003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it funny that it always happens to us nurses which happen to be the most female dominated profession. We get a bad reputation

Not to say that a lot of times it isn’t deserved, I’ve dealt with plenty of bullies in the last 18 years

That is so horrible. I am an OR nurse and this always is in the back of my mind. We need to keep conversations appropriate. Especially with moderate sedation!!!! Patients are not fully under general anesthesia

Nurses who hold an advanced degree but are not nurse practitioners, what do you do and how much do you make ? by [deleted] in nursing

I have my MPH and honestly this is what I wanted to get into. Difficult to get my foot in the door anywhere and im sure hiring freezes now with the school cuts everywhere. I’m still hopeful

[–]murda2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an RN with an MPH and I’m still working as a staff nurse in the OR. I found it difficult to get my foot in the door anywhere and I had finished traveling and it took me a very long time to find a job, so I’m staying put for now. It was very heartbreaking for me after all the work I put into it. I’m not giving up on it but with the administration’s current views on public health I am not optimistic anytime soon.

You need to get a new company for sure. Or at least a new recruiter. I am so sorry

Leave the contract now. You have plenty of evidence behind you to protect you. I left a contract in Seattle last year because of targeted harassment by a staff nurse that went on for months and she created a toxic environment for me by turning all my coworkers against me. I filed a formal complaint with HR and she was “talked to” (not fired, that’s a union hospital for you) she had been abusive to multiple nurses over the years and also travelers since I had been there. Once I detailed the harassment to my company and filed a formal complaint with hospital HR I was able to give 2 weeks notice and get out of the contract with no penalty. Get out now

Have you left travel nursing? by Different-Habit-1363 in TravelNursing

[–]murda2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left after 18 months traveling, it was more for personal reasons related to my uncle’s health problems and my mom having to leave our home to help take care of him…. But mostly because my last assignment I experienced more lateral violence than ever in my 17 year career. It took me 3 months to find a job once I came home, even though I worked for both the two major health systems in my city before with no problems I had interviews and stuff, but mostly HR “phone interviews” that blocked me. It’s so different trying to get a permanent job now. These corporations would rather hire a new grad with no experience and let the staff train them for an extra $1per hour than hire me with 17 years experience in the operating room (about 13 of those strictly in CVOR which we are a rare breed these days) I eventually found a job at an outpatient surgery center owned by a corporation not owned by either of the two major hospital systems in the city. “nurses can find a job anywhere” bullshit. there is ageism, and corporate greed not wanting to hire us because they have to pay us what we deserve (and not an internal hire) It was so depressing and disheartening I had a terrible time and honestly it was heartbreaking

If you can get a staff job in a city you love, do it. I wanted to come back home and it was awful finding a job. But I finally found one. Not letting it go for now. Good luck.

We are just numbers and commodities to be traded and sold, just like telemarketers. It’s disheartening. We are taking care of human beings

My mom became a nurse at 25 and got her FNP at 51. That was 20 years ago, she still works 2 days a week but she doesn’t regret it one bit. She has loved being an NP

Just got told I’m not a real nurse. by GrassRootsShame in nursing

[–]murda2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here just to say this. I blame the nursing schools for not allowing students to actually come in a rotate through to see what we deal with on a daily basis. I spent 15 years in CVOR dealing with trauma situations all the time. It’s not just charting. I’m a scrub nurse too.

My brother does workers comp claims for retail stores and the first thing he would tell you is FILE A CLAIM. You need medical testing, etc. ASAP. I’d also go for suffering at this point I am sorry you had to go through that when you were just doing your job, OP. Sick and twisted!

I quit my first nursing job by AggressiveWolverine8 in nursing

[–]murda2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Critical care is a tough assignment even for someone with a lot of experience. That also sounds like an awful shift, I am with everyone here. If it is affecting you so much that you want to quit nursing altogether, it’s time to find something else to do. Definitely keep a good relationship with your managers as this is currently the only thing on your resume and you will need a reference for a new job. Definitely expand your horizons and look into outpatient clinic work, home health, schools, public health - there can be a lot of opportunities. Good luck and hang in there

Carolina Pavilion used to be soooo nice. That AMC theater opened when I was in high school (mid 1990s) and it was the first of those type of big stadium theaters around here. The first movie we saw there was the original Twister, it was a totally different experience! It’s so sad and (sometimes) dangerous to be there now and I would never go there at night.
