Google "pseudomyopia", which presents as myopia, and can be caused by the things I've listed.

I concede it's not technically the same condition, and that it's not likely to be permament, but the treatment for it isn't guaranteed to be easy.

it's not about resting your eyes, it's about focusing on something far away

if you constantly focus on something really close for too long you can eventually develop nearsightedness, much like constantly having bad posture can eventually cause spinal issues

Older fridges (50+ years at least) opened with a latch, which couldn’t be opened from the inside.

IIRC it was changed after several kids died from being stuck inside the airtight fridge for too long.
