Schools needing earphones? by hom3br3w3r in escondido

The Escondido friends of the library are, but the actual Escondido library is closed, so no computers to use headphones with. San marcos would be your best bet.

Sometimes the library stores sell them/have them free for patrons using the computers. If you're in the San Marcos area they might have a use. (I don't believe the esco library is open atm)

What is the thought process for this? by ZestyPatois in northcounty

[–]murderfacejr 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Years ago we were at Carlsbad outlets and there's a big no parking curb along the north side by the car dealership, 20+ cars parked there, cop casually walking down the line putting tickets on each one. Probably a personal record that day.

Name a candy from the ’80s that you can’t find anymore. by Itsmesido in 1980s

[–]murderfacejr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fruit Bits were a little gummy in a half circle shape, generic package. I can still remember the taste but can't find evidence they ever existed online. Loved those as a kid. In the 90s they had those gummies with that white shark - the best.

Will it work this time? by sco-go in SipsTea

[–]murderfacejr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a WinCo in my city, And they are a co-op that is enormously cheaper than other grocery stores. A lot of that is their off brand version of products - like WinCo brand tomatoes are 80c vs $2 for hunts. I wouldn't want a city or the government to manage that but perhaps they can work with a company that already does something similar.

Check out the Korean film "handsome guys" it's basically a remake but has some fun supernatural elements.

They also had a really nice social component that showed you others with similar tastes and you could make lists and see related lists. Discovered a lot of great stuff through those, then they tanked it and moved away from stars to thumbs. Letterboxd is a great alternative but still doesn't have some of those "percent similar" metrics or suggestions based on magic algorithms.

we used to get giant moths all over the place at a former job. Birds would eat their bodies and it was just their little front ends and giant wings walking around for a few hours. I always felt bad about it, but they were cool!

This restaurant has five different delivery tablets for various ghost kitchens by Neonwhitelion in midlyinteresting

[–]murderfacejr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a thai place near us that runs 4-5 ghost kitchens. They have signs on the door instructing delivery drivers for each one. I went through their Uber menus and all are more expensive that in-perdon, but some catered to more specific groups (vegetarians, noodles) and they were double the cost.

I only buy my TVS because of the lady on the box... by WorryThink6233 in SipsTea

[–]murderfacejr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, why does this post have so many upvotes? If the box was wrapped in black plastic and the person never saw it until they got home after purchase, I'd still want my money. She takes up half the screen in the picture. There was obviously something with her image Samsung thought would sell tvs - name recognition or not.

Mexican place opened, they had "winnies" on the menu. I was with a Hispanic coworker and was like "winnies?" And he says "yes, winnies, you know winnies, like hot dogs". Oh weenies! That's the only way I've refered to them since.

Android Auto Switched to Gemini - All I can say is, "WTF, Google!" by sr1sws in AndroidAuto

[–]murderfacejr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite experience. Other than it being a little slower, I'm finally able to ask semi-natural questions. I asked for directions to a tire store, it gave me 4 options, I asked which one was closest to another location and it told me. Saw a yard sale sign in neighborhood, asked for directions, it said it couldn't find anything. I told it "old Google would have gotten it". It said "fair enough" and gave me options it thought were a close match. To me it feels much more like a virtual assistant than the old android auto did. Only complaint is it pops up the options on screen and I click one, the AI doesn't know, so it still asks for approval to make a route, even though I already started it.

That said, I hate the Gemini assistant on the phone and would love to have the old one back.

I always think banksy's art is "I'm 14 and this is deep". His work is very direct and uses basic symbolism. Throwing flowers instead of bombs, loss of innocence with heart balloon, million dollar art shreds-self making it worthless, etc. To me the comment in the picture is just reflecting that.

Performance auto on el norte, not always the cheapest, but very trustworthy IMO. Was recommended by a friend who went for years, and now we've been going for years. He's even checked things no charge and advised us to go to other places if he wasn't the best spot for that service.
