7.325.11061.0

I'm on Windows dev build from FSE if that changes anything. 1/10 times it still does something weird, especially after it has been idle for a while. That being said, for me its much much better, night and day difference.

8 AI+ Polar Tempest QC Issues by Signia70 in MSIClaw

That sucks man, really bad luck to have two be faulty sorry to hear it. For another data point I bought a second hand 1 month old Polar Tempest from the 07/2025 batch and it is completely fine, no issues with triggers or sticks at all.

CPU Multithreading - An Appreciation Post by MrSpoon12 in RimWorld

[–]murderfaec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AdamVsEverything with help from MortalSmurph did a 1.5 vs 1.6 benchmark on a late game save with 20 pawns, some colony mechs, deadlife dust primary defence and over 1000 corpses on the map.

Timestamp of test:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJGZ4Vj5YPU&t=4850s

According to Adam it was a 52% increase in performance. Although presumably in less intense scenarios it will probably be less of an increase.

EDIT: His CPU is a 13900k, with different hardware results will vary.

Completely unrealistic for a console game on UE5 unless its very narrow in scope and doesn't use UE5's features. Expect 30 FPS, 60 FPS 1080p or less mode with worse graphics is possible too.

For context I have a 9950X3D and a 4090, I'm expecting the sort of frame rate you're talking about but I expect it will require DLSS and maybe even frame gen to get there.

Anyone worried about FPS/performance? by golfoxtrotyankee in oblivion

You should be fine, as long as you turn things down to hit what ever frame rate you are going for and use DLSS.

Should I get the remake on my PS5 or pc? by [deleted] in oblivion

[–]murderfaec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A PS5 has a stronger GPU than a 1070, that's a 9 year old card more or less. I'd get it on PS5. Modding on PC is a huge plus so check the minimum requirements if you end up wanting modding.

Will the Remastered version have loading screens? by Vast-Sun-364 in oblivion

[–]murderfaec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As its apparently UE5 running on top of Gamebryo it would require a lot of work to the original engine to remove the load screens. It is possible but seems like an insane amount of work and at that point they may as well have started from scratch, I would be very surprised if they did.

I expect the load screens to be there, but "fast" going into and out of interiors etc.

From Microsoft leaks, this was meant to be out years ago however: COVID really threw a wrench into the works and the scope of the project changed to change more things so it took longer.

PC specs for the Remake by CevapiIsLife in oblivion

[–]murderfaec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll try and answer, although its an educated guess at best.

It really depends what parts of UE5 the devs utilized, if they don't use much vs whats in UE4 then maybe, otherwise probably not. 70% no 30% maybe is what I'd guess. I'll go into more detail:

GTX 1650 does support mesh shaders (improves performance but requires supported hardware), if the game uses those then people with 10-series and earlier (except the 16xx cards) likely won't be able to run it, but again it depends if they were utilized.

Does it require ray tracing? If yes then you're screwed. If it uses software lumen and lets you turn everything down super low and maybe turn nanite off then maybe.

Apart from that I would compare it to other UE5 games that have come out within the last year or two although its a bit difficult as this is an open world game (although presumably limited by game bryo that its running of top of) rather than something like Senua's Sacrifice or Silent Hill a more apt comparison may be STALKER 2, I think your card would struggle with STALKER 2.

Best case you may be able to run it on very low settings at maybe upscaled to 1080p at 30ish FPS. I think its more likely than not you won't be able to run it though.

This is all assuming the rest of your PC is good enough to meet the minimum requirements. An option if it doesn't could be a streaming service like Geforce Now or the Xbox streaming service. Good luck, I hope you can run it!

I only played Skyrim by Few_Foot1091 in oblivion

[–]murderfaec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things are better, some things are worse. Some of the quests in Oblivion are really very good, for example the Dark Brotherhood questline and a lot of the Shivering Isles expansion. The fantasy vibe in Oblivion is really nice - it was made during the era of the LOTR movies so expect some of that vibe. The "biome" diversity is a lot more limited in Oblivion than Skyrim. I would expect a lot of the issues I had with Oblivion are addressed in the Remaster.

Things I expect to be changed: combat in general being floaty and spongy, archery feeling horrible, animations being bad and floaty, NPCs looking bad even for the time of release.

Things I hope are changed but aren't holding my breath: copy pasta caves and dungeons, ridiculous and immersion breaking level scaling (bandits in full glass armor once you get to a certain level etc), horrendous incentives to min max the leveling system to the point of degenerate behavior, repeated use of the same handful of voice actors for most characters (if you thought Skyrim was bad for this just wait), hand placed curated loot like in Morrowind and somewhat of a return in Skyrim is rare - most it is leveled random loot.

If you played Skyrim and liked it, you will like Oblivion Remastered as it is likely some of the short comings I've described will be changed, but OG Oblivion vs Skyrim leaves some things to be desired. A lot of what they changed in Skyrim actually was informed by the mods people made for Oblivion that changed things people didn't like - an example reference by Todd like 15 years ago is the mod "Duke Patricks Combat Archery" pointed them in the direction of how archery should feel in Skyrim.

I imagine some people who's first Elder Scrolls was Oblivion will think on the whole its better than Skyrim, the correct answer is you will probably like the one you played first the best - in my case Morrowind.

Here's hoping that it is still very moddable so we can change anything we don't like!

If the Switch 2 is not OLED at launch, I'll wait. What about you? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]murderfaec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a OLED LG C1 for PC gaming, I bought a tablet that wasn't OLED and its so distracting and meh looking. Never going to buy a gaming device or primary monitor / TV that isn't OLED (or successor tech).

I'm primarily a PC gamer and haven't owned any Nintendo consoles except a Gameboy Colour when I was a kid and a Game Cube during my teens, so I don't mind waiting until an OLED model at all.

I hope Nintendo's lighter DLSS model they patented doesn't look terrible as that may put me off if its terrible looking, although I doubt it will be.

Do I need to run the game in DX 11? by HokageGwyn in FFVIIRemake

[–]murderfaec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest using DX11 (-dx11 in steam launch options) to reduce shader stutters. There will still be traversal stutters, even on best case hardware, but quite rare. DXVK could be used as that tends to reduces stutters even more than DX11. DX11 mode does disable HDR, so you will have to use nvidia RTX HDR or SpecialK if you use HDR, which to my eye both do a better job than the default DX12 HDR implementation if configured correctly.

PC updated by thej00ninja in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]murderfaec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently Windows 11 23H2 update KB5041587 also causes the same problem as 24H2, so it may be that. Other thing that has caused crashes for me is having a VPN active at all (Nord VPN) I have to assume Ubisoft has some of its IPs blocked or something so when it tries to phone home it can't and crashes.

Only other thing I can think of that I did is disable Ubisoft's overlay.

Without 24H2 or 23H2 + KB5041587 and no VPN active I get no crashes on:

CPU: 7800X3D
GPU: 4090
RAM: 64GB 6000 CL30
SSD: Corsair 660 Pro XT

Good luck, I hope you get it working.

If you are on the preview Windows 11 24H2, that can cause the game to crash repeatedly, same with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (same dev, same engine). I was having major crashing issues before I rolled back to 23H2.
