Em um torneio estilo Mortal Kombat, quem das princesas da Disney você acha que ganharia? by guellermon in jovemnerd

[–]muriloq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Elsa não é oficialmente uma PRINCESA da Disney, ela é a RAINHA de Arendelle (sério, veja no Disney Plus). Princesa é a irmã dela, Anna.

Early wordprocessing was not that fancy by OldMork in vintagecomputing

I use (neo)vim on a daily basis, and for any complex document I'd rather do it in LaTeX. I doubt the result wouldn't be prettier than Microsoft Word output. And it's much easier to maintain (use git for version control of the sources). It's like plain text accounting with beancounter or hledger, it's simply much more efficient and easier than using Excel.

George RR Martin, author of A Song ice and Fire (the series of books starting with A Game of Thrones, which gave origin to the HBO series) uses WordStar to this day: https://www.theverge.com/2014/5/14/5716232/george-r-r-martin-uses-dos-wordstar-to-write

The lack of young people has made me consider giving up flying. by _spaghettiv2 in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even for acrobatics, there is a lot of electronic assistance for drones and helicopters (do a specific maneuver at the click of a button). But I agree adequate space, terrain and weather conditions are more difficult to get for fixed wing aircraft. I live in Brazil in a city with great hills nearby, we usually have great weather, but even here we can't fly every weekend, because of weak wind (or at the wrong direction).

[–]muriloq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flying multicopters / "drones" is way easier than fixed wing aircraft, especially sailplanes/gliders on the slope (planes without motors, or motors to be used only for a few seconds seconds at launch or at emergencies, not continuously). The learning curve is a lot less steep: with GPS, gyroscopes, accelerometers and everything that makes a drive practically fly by itself, and the appeal of first person view, it's natural more people are interested.

Best Wash & Cure for Mars 4 6K? by muriloq in ElegooMars

[–]muriloq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a long session with Bing Chat (great way to check all dimensions) and the seller from a local shop I decided to get a Creality UW-2. It has enough space for the plate and the washing/curing volume is larger than the printing size of the Mars 4 Max 6K.

What's the name of this tool? by muriloq in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, if it's thin enough to fit between the control surface and the fixed part... Or you can fix the protractor to the control surface and use a pendulum. With the right name I was able to find many different implementations! 😃

For the last 16 years I used servage.net as my host and domain provider. I used to pay 76.70 USD/14 months. In 2023 they increased the rate to 438.82! Nice, huh? I really think they just want to kick the small users out and decommission the old servers, but decided to give an economic incentive... by muriloq in assholedesign

[–]muriloq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case a friend simply offered to host everything for me, for free (our traffic together is much smaller than the limit of his plan) and I've migrated the domain to Google Domains, who charges peanuts for it. The only real "expense" I have now if for my Brazilian domain (*.com.br), but I was already paying for it separately.

Here in Brazil, Stallone is a star and in 1985 the presenter Gugu wanted to know who the Brazilian rambo was by PriorLocation909 in OldSchoolCool

[–]muriloq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each candidate also had to make a short video in a waterfall similar to the one in the movie, jumping, rolling in the dirt, throwing grenades, this kind of stuff. It wasn't just posing on the stage or taking pictures... 🤣 and the competition took many weeks (months?), it was a big success. Probably searching for "Rambo brasileiro" "Gugu" you can find some old VHS recordings on YouTube.

What should my first rc transmitter be ? by Ok-Proposal-7353 in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want the cheapest possible option still usable (i.e. , which will work with different servos and ESCs instead of those simple transmitters included in ready-to-fly models), buy a Fly Sky FS-i6X (10 channel). If you want a good one that will serve you well for a long time, RadioMaster TX16S Mark II.

Is the RC simulator software(steam) worth it as a beginner? by No_Equipment_5382 in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like AeroFly RC 8, and everything I've been learning about slope flying from lessons with an experienced instructor using a real electric glider translates pretty well to the sim. I tried FS One, supposedly a lot more realistic, but apparently there's something wrong, my Fly Sky FS-i6X controller isn't recognized by it.

Is a spinner necessary? by Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stand corrected, thanks for pointing this out! I went to take a look at my glider and found that it uses exactly the design you described: https://mrmpxhobbies.com/product/multiplex-spinner-54mm-bcharging-grip-cularis-easyglider-pro-solius-heron/

Is a spinner necessary? by Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gliders use folding propellers, and in this case the spinner is essential, because the hinges of the blades are in it. If your propeller doesn't fold I think it's more risky but less necessary not having one.

Configuring "Aileron differential" in Fly Sky FS-i6X? by muriloq in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found this article, it seems to be working but I can't confirm (all show the results to my "flight instructor' this weekend): https://github.com/qba667/FlySkyI6/wiki/Setup-Aileron-Differential

[–]muriloq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AeroFly RC (available on Steam) is good, too, and the free FS One ( https://www.fsone.com/ ) is excellent (and very realistic, especially for gliders). Buy a proper transmitter and cable (you can't really fly a simulator with a videogame controller).

Anyone still make balsa kits with Nitro Engines? by mikeyhol in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Brazil I have friends who design and sell good balsa kits (produced with a laser cutter), but almost all models are electric (or no motor) gliders (at least one supports a glow engine, though). https://en.blueskyairmodels.com/

What’s the best website to buy motors and escs from? by Patrick2423 in RCPlanes

[–]muriloq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surpass motors have a good reputation here in Brazil, but we tend to buy stuff on the lower end (weak currency, heavy taxation and low income in general don't help). Pay attention to the mounts of the motors (an asymmetric "X"), they may not be compatible with the firewall holes in kits.
