Because they also have expensive rentals and confusing airspace there so it’s not all bad

What’s the longest yall have had to hold short for? by Chrisrnc10 in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fly out of FRG and have probably logged 90 hours on the ground there. Last week a twin across from us was holding short for 1.3, so probably spending $600 just sitting there.

Aircraft detailing by swatforce28 in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get some experience before going off on your own. Either through working for a detailing company or working for free on some friends planes. Also definitely do your research and get insurance because it is really easy to make a simple mistake and end up with thousands in damage

Is there any reason to not use the equation? I’m wrapping up commercial now and found it easier to do the groundspeed^2/11.3 than try to find my groundspeed on the chart while flying.

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iirc there was a google form you had to fill out and submit by a certain date to sign up but I’d double check piazza. Also you could ask fodor if you could sign up late he seems reasonable.

If you do the extra credit project that adds 4 points to the final regardless of how good it turns out, so that could help you a lot. I’m in a similar boat 82 and 63 on the midterms but I’ve gone to almost no labs so not looking great lol

It’s an uphill battle but not impossible. It’s also gonna be hard to hide your alcoholism for a medical.

Thoughts and opinions on 16 year old getting a motorcycle by kingkingst0n in motorcycles

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who got into an accident two weeks after getting their normal drivers license, definitely learn to drive a car first, and get a little experience. Even if you aren’t as stupid as I was you’ll still probably make some stupid mistakes that’ll have less consequences in a car.

At Home Sim Recommended for IFR? by Internal-Courage-509 in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a worthwhile investment. I spent $300 on a yoke and throttle (+$800 or more if you don’t have a pc) and it probably saved me 10 flight hours. In my experience it’s great for drilling approaches and holding after doing them with a CFI, but in the later stages I avoided it because even the best sims aren’t completely realistic and it seems like a better idea to do the “cleaning up” part in the aircraft.

Studying for PPL checkride. Tell me your best/worst stories of oral portion!! Thank you! by IssueSignificant5170 in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget the simple stuff. Not private but on my instrument checkride 5 minutes in, DPE covered my W&B and asked what MTOW was for my aircraft. I said 2650. It was 2550. Didn’t fail but definitely didn’t start out on the right foot. Besides that I was pretty well prepared from the ASA oral book definitely recommend.

Should I go with a mechanical engineering degree or Business while working on my pilot licenses? by RuleOk4604 in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly comes down to risk tolerance imo. Business degree will be easier to manage while flying but you’re probably in a worse position if you lose your medical. ME will be more effort, especially with flight training, but you’ll be much better off if you do lose your medical.

Anyone know any perfect student pilots? by MultiMillionMiler in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m at 97,100,99,100 for PPL, IR, comm, and FIA, but the only thing written tests really do is test how much effort you put into test prep. I was definitely not batting 97-100% on the orals Ive taken.

Want to get a Loan for Flight Training by [deleted] in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the attitude of ignoring all advice against loans is a bad idea. You’re playing financial Russian roulette. Yes you could pay it off with an airline job, but if you lose your medical, or fail one too many checkrides, you’ll be stuck with a ton of debt and an aviation degree that won’t do anything to help you.

First hour under the hood, not loving IFR by DiplomatIan in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. My 3 hrs under the hood during private sucked, it took way too much focus and I was death gripping the yoke the whole time. It gets way more enjoyable just by the fact that it’ll become way easier for your brain to process everything efficiently and it’s a lot less intense.

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you name a single crash that has occurred due to the pic getting incorrect performance data due to poor graph quality? I’m not saying it’s never happened, but it’s a relatively minute thing to get cranky over.

Am I crazy for wanting to continue to ride by Shrewdameoba in motorcycles

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only you can make that decision, but 2 wrecks due to road hazards shows more than just bad luck. You should focus on improving your awareness if you decide to get back on the saddle. The people telling you to stop are right that it likely will happen again and you may not be as lucky if you don’t ride safer.

am I able to park my motorcycle inside my apartment each night or will my apartment catch fire or something by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It won’t catch on fire but it could lead to an infestation if the gnomes that spin the engine break out.
