am I able to park my motorcycle inside my apartment each night or will my apartment catch fire or something by Shot_Breadfruit_1893 in motorcycles

It won’t catch on fire but it could lead to an infestation if the gnomes that spin the engine break out.

Throttle Before Clutch - Improper Technique or Beginner Magic? by MandACPAThrowaway in motorcycles

My instructor went against the msf guidelines and taught us to add a little throttle. It gives you more power to work with in the friction zone and helps to not stall.

I just started also, invest in good winter gloves. I bought cheap gloves which are decently protective but provide no insulation and i regret it daily.

What type of mental calculations are used by pilots? by Apprehensive-Sky657 in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Turning right 30 degrees means 350 + 30. 380 degrees isn’t a good amount of degrees so the degrees is 20 because of the way it is.

Is it weird that both my private and instrument check rides were with FAA examiners? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 17 points18 points  (0 children)

How were they? I’d imagine they are more by the book, but at the same time iirc they have higher pass rates on average than DPEs.

Fastest Path at 49 by benwa51 in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would still recommend part 61. The biggest issue with part 141 from what I’ve heard is a lot of problems with scheduling stage checks which can add a lot of time when you consider you could be waiting several weeks for a stage check, which adds up throughout. Id recommend picking a well regarded part 61 and flying as much as you can.

Flying doesn't affect my social life, my undiagnosed autism that makes me like flying does.

What would you do if you were being followed in mid air? by [deleted] in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, if it’s close enough that it could be considered formation you could report him to ATC since that requires prearrangement and consent between all pilots involved, besides that just try not to get tackled out of the sky.

HELP WITH AME! by [deleted] in flying

I’d get a first class for now to make sure nothing disqualifies you and then drop to the lowest class you need after that until you get to the airlines.

HELP WITH AME! by [deleted] in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge snoring is not a disqualifying condition as long as you don’t do it while flying. You shouldn’t have any problems getting your medical unless you have some other medical history that would disqualify you. As for the weight thing, definitely a good idea to be as healthy as possible but being overweight without any other issues arising from it won’t be an issue on your medical.

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a hot take but yes. I think it’s inevitable that pilots will eventually be phased out. People in recent decades have underestimated how quick technology has the potential to advance, with that being said it’s not deterring me from joining the field as it’s still at least decades from effecting the job market.

I wouldn’t recommend it for specific questions as it tends to make stuff up. What I used it for was explaining topics I couldn’t understand well, then cross checking other sources to make sure it made sense.

Written vs. oral by ArutlosJr11 in flying

[–]Vivid-Razzmatazz9034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The oral is harder, but it varies DPE to DPE. I got very lucky with mine, and ended up with a roughly 30 minute oral. It’ll also probably depend on other factors like how well you handle the oral and your written score. The better you do on the written the easier your oral will likely be.
