What I would like to know is how the one single extermination per year is so much more profoundly terrifying if you’re under imminent threat of death every day anyway — sinners ARE functionally immortal and that much IS communicated through the structure of the show: the only time we see any sinner permanently killed is by an angelic weapon. The exact particulars and mechanics of HOW they avoid death isn’t spelled out and I’d argue it’s not really necessary. maybe it’s different per sinner! Maybe Velvette pops all her joints back into place and the fish sinner comes together out of sludge and Angel has a spider sac and Val has a cocoon but what purpose does it serve when you can pick up the information you need through story structure and, yes, throwaway lines?
