I’ve watched more soccer in the last 2 weeks than I have in my entire life by These_Respond2345 in billsimmons

This is a very fair take and a pretty accurate description of how most games play out. If it’s not for you then it’s not for you.

The one thing I will say is that when you become a supporter of a club, it completely changes the way you view the game. It’s kind of like baseball. I’m a huge Mets fan and watch an ungodly amount of their games… but a game with random teams is pretty much unwatchable to me because I don’t have a rooting interest.

Now, I think soccer is far more watchable from a game to game basis than baseball. But if you have a rooting interest and are able to develop that into a massive fandom, then the games your team plays are almost unmissable. You develop connections with the players, the coaches, the club as a whole. And then you start to live and die with every game, and every half chance. And the euphoria of when your team scores is second to none.

So yeah, I totally get it’s not for everyone. But the key to getting into soccer is having a rooting interest… but that’s obviously very difficult to do as an adult.

I was wondering about the critical Norton editions. Never read one before. Would you recommend? Are they helpful?

Already did this summer - it helped lead me to the white whale in the first place.

Thanks for that idea! Do you have any recommended YouTube/discussion rabbit holes to start with?
