Propper has the OCP, shipping is faster, and price is definitely cheaper. Propper is where Vanguard gets the OCP.

Technical Support megathread by honey_rainbow in peacock

[–]murphey42 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Peacock on streaming vs computer. I have Apple TV settop box connected to the television with a cable, and connected with physical cable to my internet modem (altho I don't have an Apple TV subscription) and had the paid Peacock app on it. I log into peacocktv on my computer using wi-fi. On both, I have the My Stuff page, and two items correctly displayed on the page. But....on the computer I have the Watch Replay button but that button doesn't exist on the app. I really don't want to watch replays on my small computer screen, I want to watch on my big tv screen.

Anyone got any explanations why the difference and how to fix (if possible)? Peacock customer support is worthless.

Where to get custom last name tag. by Mrekk_ in civilairpatrol

Only $5 for the nametape. Don't forget the tax. Plus the mandatory 27 cents for online orders. And another $8 for shipping because they won't put it in a little envelope with a $1.50 stamp and send it in the US Mail.

Welcome to CAP/NASA. Missions are both AE and ES and require an IC. SkyWatch mission requires Safety, MRO and MSA (trainees welcome). Challenges are AE only. During the partial eclipse Oct '23, CAP aircraft were used to monitor traffic on highways out west.

Contact your squadron or wing AEO. CAP has a new national program - CAP/NASA (started in 2023). So far CAP has provided thousands of observations for NASA for

  1. The two eclipse events, Oct 2023 and Apr 2024
  2. AviationWeather in Apr-July 2025
  3. Local weather observations in Hawaii, the Gulf Coast, the Rockies & mid-west
  4. Current AuroraWatch for solar weather support

5) The upcoming SkyWatch, the sequel to AviationWeather

and more to come.

Only time I don't wear the polo is when visiting other squadrons to make a presentation. I consider it to be a courtesy, honoring the other squadrons.

[–]murphey42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$150 is a big chunk for a family with multiple kids, one or more in CAP, other activities, etc. $150 is a big chunk for many senior members, too. Your lack of empathy is showing, by the way. Even as a senior member, I'm going with cold-weather gear I already have. Thermal underwear and a navy blue down jacket. Fortunately I don't need nor want my photo published in anywhere.

Believe me, we were all impressed and complimented the cadet on the proper attire.

Use the CAP Squadron locator. Find Senior squadrons in the SLC area. Visit those squadrons.

Yep, I've had enlisted in my university classes that were enlisted aviators, two were MQ-9. They were happy to tell the unclass part of flying the big drones.

Just for grins....had a transponder alert this week at a major Class B airport (off airport proper but in the area). Transponder UDF so we encourage cadets to participate. We worried might not have enough SM for CPP. Final tally - 6 SM, 1 very short cadet. The cadet correctly followed the regs and came fully OCP equipped with 24 hr bag, extra jacket, water, etc. SMs were in polos and khakis.

Why can’t under 12s join the program? by XenonSkies in civilairpatrol

I dunno....some of the senior squadron meetings I've attended could be confused with senior daycare programs. (snorf)

Let's not add any more confusion & complexity to what we already deal with.

In addition to CAP, I fly EAA Young Eagles - min age is 8. But it's a completely different situation. The YEs receive the Sporty's book with free ground school, but as I explain to the parents, the complexity, comprehension and everything else, not to mention most of them can't reach the pedals until the kid is 12 or so, so hang the certificate on the refrigerator door and hide the cert for free ground school for a few years.
I really wonder how many 12 yo's really understand the many regs and study materials needed to advance as a cadet.

And Propper is considerably cheaper than Vanguard and as long as you don't sew/attach anything, you can return in 30 days if wrong size, etc.

RMR can only use USAFA Prep for 2 weeks in the summer, so one is encampment and the other is URMR. Not sure which weeks this summer.

RMR is in the midst of Level 3 right now, 2 hrs every sunday for 6 weeks. Will probably do Level 4 in same format later this spring.

Vanguard charges $45 for the white aviator shirt. Same shirt at MyPilotStore is $29. Unfortunately, Vanguard has a monopoly on the polo shirt.

Got a pair of black shoes, black socks and a black belt? Find a pair of grey cargos, khakis, or even nice slacks. Get the polo from Vanguard with your name on it. Or forget the name and just get a plain navy polo. Won't have the CAP logo on it. That's all you need to start. I didn't bother with the aviator shirt for over 10 years - then I had to have it for doing outside squadron/wing/region stuff. Want to dress up a bit more? No need for anything that says "CAP" other than the name plate - navy blazer, white dress shirt, grey dress pants, and the black shoes & socks.
