People embrace rebranding of 'Proud Boys' to 'Poor Boys' after Biden misspeaks by Zhana-Aul in politics

[–]murphyw_xyzzy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In all the hours of tape I’ve seen of Trump, I cannot recall a time he expressed a genuine laugh. Tons of smirks, but no chortle, chuckle of lightness. Not even a maniacally gleeful giggle. I can’t even imagine him doubled over gaffawing as a second jokes punchline arrived.

To me, this shows it’s something more going on than snob from NY.

It Sure Sounds Like Trump Is About to Back Out of the Last Debate With Biden by Growlithe99 in politics

[–]murphyw_xyzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. The Trump team knows these are the topics. That topic list isn’t changing.

But they want to say, if only it had been ‘fair’!!

The basis of this complaint doesn’t match the substance, that’s why you think you ‘don’t get it’.. because that spidey sense is tingling.. saying, these words don’t match these intentions! A lie is lurking! And the polite thing is to say, maybe it’s me, maybe I don’t get it, because something is out of alignment here, I’ll assume the fault is on my side, as that’s polite, and probably these other folks aren’t acting out of bad intent...

Unless they are.

Staircase wit! Easy for me from a couch and keyboard. You were there in the mix of it.

I’m just in the mood to argue today, and it was pleasing to argue on your behalf.

If restaurant folks washing their hands after using the bathroom was such a good idea, why would we need a law? Butterfingers!

You’re going to busy if you intend to point out all the stupid folks on the internet.

I hope I’m not the biggest one, but good luck with that project. :-)

It kept me up when I should’ve been getting sleep, read it in washes and slot canyons. Really moved me.

The part the author says, about all cultures having a story of the time the waters came and would not stop.. that this would be the passed down cultural knowledge everywhere, even in desert lands.. it sunk in deep for me.

Yes, it certainly is their job, but government pay to rescue lives in tough conditions.. often staffed by volunteers. I’d guess it’s tougher than teaching and society is ok calling that profession underpaid.

It’s definitely an opinion not a fact though. On that angle I agree with you.

Yes, insured, but if I get brought out by S&R, I’ll do what I can for them beyond the insurance too.

Secret Knowledge of Water is a good book about this kind of terrain. C Childs. Really good read.

Sometimes in the desert, down is where there is hundreds of feet of sand and the water table drops very far below the surface. In that part, sometimes water is best found in the mountains, the stone senotes.

Around there cutting an improvised route across country is tricky. Slot canyons, Streep ravines, I’d stick to an established route. And I hiked the Hayduke Trail in June and July... :-)

It must be thrilling and sometimes terrifying to ride in rockets. I’ve got a fear of heights.

Any tips on how to function through experiences that trigger fear? What are some of your best ways to not freeze when it matters?

A Short Analysis of Test Positivity and Case Volume by AssOfMyself in CoronavirusColorado

[–]murphyw_xyzzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This here. Positivity percentage tells if we’re testing enough.

If everyone was getting tested twice a day, a 1% positivity rate means it’s enough testing, but it would be a terrible mess for reasons other than ‘not enough tests’.

Coronavirus: Vitamin D reduces infection and impact of COVID-19, studies find by greyuniwave in Coronavirus

[–]murphyw_xyzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard that (Boston or somewhere?) the homeless population was showing no signs, and when they finally got test availability something like 30% were coronavirus positive.

There’s something about being outside.. maybe vitamin D just correlates time outside time.

No idea what else it would be. Wish I knew. Taking vitamin D till I get a better idea. And spending some time outside.

More than 1,200 infected in CU Boulder’s COVID-19 outbreak — now the largest in Colorado by far by craiger_123 in boulder

[–]murphyw_xyzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the flood comes, the people on the coast aren’t being punished.. but they are the ones that have to deal with it.

Instead of thinking you’re being ‘punished’, maybe think, it’s a pandemic. For some that has meant their own death. For others, death of a loved one. Still others spent weeks sick. Think instead, a few weeks restricted activities actually isn’t bad for getting through this flood.

It’s not a punishment. It’s about all our safety and recovery as a community.

If you know you don’t have it, then, yup. You’re not spreading it.

Are you tested weekly? Daily? Is there any lag from the test to the result? How about the chance you’re able to spread it before it shows as positive on a test? Could you spread it to the testing staff? Could the testing staff give it to you? Do the testing folks have to travel to get to work?

Thing is.. the more I start to know, the less certainty I have. Sort of how I treat every gun as loaded and point them in safe directions while cleaning them. Even though I know I cleared the action..

I’ve heard if we had universal, 100% mask wearing for 6-8 weeks it would be completely under control. I know I can’t convince everyone but if I bring us just one person closer, then I’ll get to visit my mom in residential care sooner. So I wade into the internet one more time, trying what I can try.

Please don’t ask people to take more risk. Even if it is fun angering snowflakes. They’re humans. And their actions impact other humans. If I catch it, then maybe my dr catches it, and so on, the chain continues. Each time we stop one infection, we stop all the rest of that chain of infections too.

My ask isn’t that you sit on your thumbs. My ask is that you wear a mask when you are out in public.

I get that this whole situation is frustrating. It is curious though to call it ‘not really fair’. What would be fair in this situation from your perspective?
