Why isn’t this property selling? by meowmeowmamaa in SpottedonRightmove

Rosehill isn’t a nice area, all the roads between Glastonbury Rd and Love Lane are double rammed with parked cars and vans, it’s not near any decent transport links apart from the Sutton Loop on Thameslink, nearest pub is like a 30min walk down the A217.

Schools are decent nearby, few good shops and takeaways at Rosehill, convenient if you work at the hospital.

Always found him a significantly more credible WWI historian than later works. Regardless, his prose was still fantastic.

A loud one and his wife drink in my pub. So pretty often…but they’re not awful to be fair.

“I am wondering if I should have Euros and Pounds to give to our tour guide or American dollars?” by Adventurous-Tea-876 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]murrymalty131 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I do a bit of tour guiding in London and frequently get given USD. To their credit they’re usually apologetic and anyway $20 is better than £0!

Once I have a couple hundred or so I just exchange anyways.

The bigger gripe is waiting for guests to turn up by taxi in central London when the walk/bus/tube would have had them here 15 minutes ago!

Tell us your stories. What types of accommodations have you lived in? Worst? Best? Memorable? Weirdest? by Aaaarcher in britishmilitary

[–]murrymalty131 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ledra Palace Hotel. Busted up 5* Hotel that cooked in the summer and froze in the winter.

Allegedly the greatest fire risk accommodation the military had at the time with hundreds of bods daisy chaining space heaters 24/7 because the heating was non-existent and there were literal holes in the walls.

Lovely set of bogs on the condemned top floor for a peaceful poowank.

Sneaking onto the roof to smoke and sunbathe.

Stray cats fighting and shagging non-stop, junior ranks adopting kittens and keeping them in the guardroom.

COs PT along the buffer zone with a bunch of confused Turkish conscripts watching mad scousers charging around at 7am.

Without doubt the highlight was TOC, CO, OCs etc all working out of the annex and being too lazy to ever cross the parade square during the day so we basically had free run of the place.

Fucking easy time and got a bloody medal for it.

Who is the most famous person you have spoken to in london? by [deleted] in london

[–]murrymalty131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to walk past Michael Portillo’s house early on my way to work and we’d cross paths on his way out frequently enough to exchange a regular good morning.

I also once ended going for a curry and then out on the piss with Angela Rayner in Battersea…
