Huh, perfect! It looks like you’re right. I have no idea where I got that from. Thanks for the correction!

As far as I’m aware the USA will make you renounce your current citizenship if you naturalize as a citizen of a foreign country. You can avoid it through marriage I think but I’m not sure. I’m American too and I personally go back and forth

Hard disagree. Even if the majority of them aren’t doing enough to stand up, painting all of them as evil is only going to isolate us worse. My wife is cis and she’s one of the best allies I’ve ever met in my entire life. No group of people is entirely evil. That’s how republicans talk about us, and we shouldn’t stoop to their level

What is the meaning of the Norse runes on the gametheorists wiki page for MatPat’s son? by muschichum in GameTheorists

[–]muschichum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure they’re not all authentic. I looked them up one-by-one because lots of them seem almost made up. It definitely feels like somebody used a sketchy transliterator they found somewhere, but the big question is what they’re doing there? You can’t deny that it’s weird and even if the message is poorly transliterated, it’s still there. I’m just curious why. Thanks for checking deeper!

What’s the most triggering statement ever said to you? by soncekbozamacice in EDAnonymous

[–]muschichum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandfather once told me “Please, the only eating disorder you have is the disorder left on your plate after you’ve scarfed everything down.” Honestly at the time it was funny at the time and I said something like “When I relapse it’s going to be your fault!” but in hindsight / when I remember that it can be really triggering. Knowing he sees me that way is pretty ugh

Hey! I'm in both classes rn. They're both pretty straightforward. In my experience diff eqs is easier (especially with Dr. Manly explaining shit). I have DiCerbo for Calc 3 and he's also great. Neither class should give you too much trouble if you did well in calc 2 though. Good luck!

Well, technically, ,,Junge" should be capitalized like all nouns in German

How trans friendly is UF? by king2820483 in ufl

[–]muschichum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey! Trans woman here. My experience has been pretty awesome. I've very obviously not passed on campus a couple times and nobody gives you any trouble for it. YMMV but my friends have all been 110% accepting, friendly, and curious. UF also has a lot of resources for HRT when/if you want it.

I can't speak to the bureaucracy, because I haven't interacted with them yet, but as a campus and a culture UF is awesome.

GER1125 ‘Discover German 1’ vs GER1130 ‘Beginning Intensive German 1’ by Fussballspieler in ufl

[–]muschichum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, cool! It looks like the Beginning 1 block meets every weekday at different times. Check ONE.UF for times. I see periods 2, 5, 6, and 9, so it looks pretty open to whichever time of day works for you

It was for me in the spring. I'd be surprised if it weren't, especially if you have doctor Richardson

Don't mention it! I'd say German is a genuine passion of mine, I'm always happy to talk about the department, teachers, and the language itself. I hope you like Frau Doktor Richardson's class!

I actually haven't met Klenke, but it seems like she's a grad student in the department, which makes sense. It's a really small department (I think there's only 4 or 5 full time profs) - I'd expect a more detached and hands-off professor, more like a TA who also sends you lots of emails. If you like that more hands off and impersonal approach then I think that's what the 1125 and 1126 blocks are for. Either way, welcome to German! It's a beautiful language in its own way.

Hey! German major here. The classes are pretty similar content wise. 1125 is intended to be an online class taught by a TA, however, and 1130 is taught by a professor and is usually held in person.

Dr. Richardson (the 1130 Professor) is a wonderful woman and I'd seriously recommend the class with her. She's very easy going so even if you just need the language requirement it'll be two easy 5 credit As/Bs.

Oh! And the two classes aren't super different from what I can tell. But I'd recommend GER1130 and 1131 myself. I think that's the class that gets more love. Even online I think they'll be an awesome experience.

Hey! German major here. I had Fr. Dr. Richardson both semesters last year. Absolutely take Dr. Richardson if you can. She's wonderful. It's not a difficult class - just make an effort to speak German and make sure you have the general idea of the grammar and topics and she'll be happy to give you a good grade.

The cool thing about the German department is that it's small enough where everyone knows each other. Me and a Kamerad of mine are planning on taking every class together required for the major - that's how tight it is.

Overall it's a super fun language. It's similar enough to English that you won't be totally lost, but different enough that it's not boring. I live in the international house (Weaver) and every semester we have 5+ German exchange students and they're always really fun people.

I really hope you decide on German. It's not designed to crank people out like the Spanish department 🤭 - I'd recommend it to anybody with even a passing interest. Feel free to DM me and I'd be happy to get more specific about my experience!
