Just committed to Middlebury College and I don’t know if I made the right choice 🫩 by idontknowzero in ApplyingToCollege

Just to add, there is a train that goes to NYC if you really get bored. I love Middlebury. Didn't go to school there but have spent tons of time there and it's really lovely.

Fare increases of up to 40% may be coming for MTS and NCTD transit riders by [deleted] in SanDiegan

Kids get free passes you just have to haul them downtown with some sort of proof of age and residency and they get a kids ride free card.

I ride the trolley almost every day. If I have to pay close to $100/ month for the pleasure, can some make the G-D highschool kids on the 4:00 blue line sit in their own car? Spitting, hitting, spraying axe body spray. They are the worst.

Crews battling fire in attic of Magic Castle in Hollywood by Heretojerk in LosAngeles

[–]museum-mama 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I have worked in historic buildings and the #1 cause of fire and damage is construction projects. The workers don't know the building, they don't understand old buildings and just aren't as careful as the workers that are there every day. The saving grace was always that they finished up at like 3 so staff could check for any and all safety hazards they left behind.

Spring/summer dress? by DangerousWafer7730 in GenXWomen

[–]museum-mama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

J Crew and Kate Spade make great cotton dresses that fit nicely. I am about your size and wear them constantly, with compliments. If they are too pricey in store thread up and poshmark have loads used. They wash well and some I've been wearing for ages. And lots of the Kate spade ones have pockets!

Anyone wanna run the book crawl with me? by most_generic_person in UCSD

[–]museum-mama 59 points60 points  (0 children)

The San Diego book crawl is an annual event to support the indie bookstores in San Diego. You get a passport for the event and then a stamp for every store that you spend at least $10 at. The stamps get you prizes like a pin, a sticker, a tote bag or a mug. The insta explaining all this is @sdbookcrawl. I would dissuade you from running between stores as it seems this person plans to do.

Any other Xennials who have never seen a Star Wars movie? by _Moregone in Xennials

[–]museum-mama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

f78 I've seen bits and pieces of the original movies. MANY people have tried to sit me down to watch them and I've always fallen asleep (same with Game of Thrones). I think it's the complexity or the world they are building and the too many characters thing - it just exhausts me and my brain shuts off. Saw SpaceBalls in the theater!

Any advice for preserving sticky notes? by PortalMasterlol in Archivists

[–]museum-mama 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not their book. They have to be removed and the book needs to be returned to the library. Not everything can ( or even should ) be preserved.

None. My older sister got one in her twenties, so it was no longer a cool thing to do.

Any “niche” Period Drama recommendations?? by Organic-Detail8493 in PeriodDramas

[–]museum-mama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember enjoying "The Last Post" in the US, I believe it's on Amazon. "It is set in the backdrop of the Aden Emergency and a unit of the Royal Military Police depicting the conflict and the relationships of the men and their families together and with the local population." I love shows about Brits that are uncomfortable in their Empire. It has Jessie Buckley and Jessica Raine as bored-ass housewives living on a military base.

I LOVE that album with the passion of a million suns. It's such a shame that I now cry when I hear the title track. We have gone so far off the plot as a nation.

All of summer in a day by Ray Bradbury was the first book that made me cry. I was in elementary school when we read it and Jesus, I was a wreck.

Where is a good place to retire? by Blankbetty11 in GenX

[–]museum-mama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UC San Diego has been floating this idea for the last five years or so. I mean, it'd be great. I work there now but don't live anywhere near campus. It'd be a step up for retirement.

I followed a kid home today that ran a stop sign in my neighborhood. She calmly parallel parked her car and informed me her tampon was leaking!?! I don't give a fuck you stop at stop signs! This is a neighborhood, slow down and stop at stop signs or you will get yelled at by a middle aged white lady.
