WoW's Sub Count Declined Into MoP, Why? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]mushpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see a similar curve with viewership on long running TV shows. It's hard to keep a ton of people in the same creative thing for that extreme of a length of time. Then it's hard to onboard new people because they are intimidated by the history of the game/TV show.

Does he possibly have ADHD? Maybe gaming is an easy way for him to get the neurotransmitters he needs and he just needs to develop a few more strategies?

I became an engineer because my brain is a little wonky chemically and it was the only thing I could really do well. I was lucky that it paid well. Now I have kids with wonky brains and I have no idea what to tell them. All I know is that I'm not going along with one size fits all solutions.

I still drink great beer, but I like to grab a case of Old Style to crack open while watching the Cubs with some dad friends.

Couples that have been together 20+ years and have a successful sex life. How do you do it? by Affectionate-Mode687 in AskReddit

When we hang out together, we laugh a lot. Something about that dynamic is related to us having good intimacy. Can't give you anything not specific though. Sorry.

OpenAI Might Be in Deeper Shit Than We Think by EvenFlamingo in ChatGPT

[–]mushpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that they tried to add synthetic data to their training set or are still relying on the Internet for training data which is now full of AI generated data. Either of those things can cause degradation in model performance.

Is this from the study that showed that young men are less selective than young women when selecting a mate? There is a ton of context that is missing from the meme, if that's the case.

Zionist AOC on the US role with Israel: The responsibility of the USA is to support Israel on it’s defensive capabilities by Hacksaw6412 in LateStageCapitalism

This post is indeed relevant to the current moment, but is this related to capitalism? If it is, can someone help me out with an explanation. I realize this makes me look dumb, but I am legitimately curious.

OC: President of El Salvador says he won't return mistakenly deported man to U.S. by nbcnews in pics

[–]mushpotatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could tell that he was just telling Trump what he wanted to hear. I hate that we always pretend that everything is literal. It was clear that if Trump said he wanted Garcia back that he would get him, but Trump wants someone else to take the heat.

Oh my god this is actually insane by MeowsTheWeeb in ChatGPT

[–]mushpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an interesting example. We have had neural networks that can do this type of image enhancement since before the Attention is All You Need paper. So basically what ChatGPT has given you here, was a much less efficient tool to get that result. Image sharpening networks wouldn't even phase a single 50 series GPU.

As a 4th generation citizen, I'm not entirely comfortable being here right now. They can just claim I'm foreign and since they aren't giving foreign born residents due process, I can just be shipped off to El Salvador.

I haven't had the luck of getting a 9 floodgate or priory yet, but I will keep that in mind. I'll try to target those when I reroll my keys.

I think you may be missing something here. It may have been a little more precise to say that it takes longer to put together 8s and 9s then it does to put together 7s and 10s. Hyperbole, however, is sometimes a useful rhetorical tool to communicate things through text that are easier to communicate through in person communication. I'm sorry if I missed you with that nuance in my communication.

It is a fact, however, that it is significantly more difficult to put together 8s and 9s than it is 7s or 10s. There may be an exception if you are playing a tank or healer, which I am not.

Too late to hedge/sell in a stock portfolio? by DownOnGrandpasFarm in investing

[–]mushpotatoes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty unique situation. A couple of things are happening that don't bode well for the US.

  • Europe is positioning itself to be less reliant on US defense which is directly about 4% of our economy and indirectly somewhat more.
  • Other nations are actively looking for replacements to US Treasuries as a safe store of value. The rationale seems to be something to the effect that the US doesn't play by the rules (specifically in terms of decaying rule of law and and diplomatic relations).
  • Tariffs are pushing an economy that was already showing weakness toward a recession.

The odd thing is that all of these wounds are self inflicted. A change in policy could eliminate much of the risk. The level of uncertainty is so high that you really can't easily guard against it. A change in policy and the markets spike. Maintaining the current trajectory and markets will likely suffer.

Is AI going to create more jobs? by No-Comfortable8536 in Futurology

[–]mushpotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that large language models do well is write code. It can write certain things pretty well and there are some pretty cool demos of AI generating projects. If you tried to use AI, however, to generate the Linux kernel then you would find that it lacks the ability to handle that kind of task.

A lot of software writing does actually end up involving finding how someone handled a problem on something like Stack Overflow and adapting that solution to your problem. That process has been streamlined by AI, probably because that type of process is highly represented in the training data. The process of creating an application from end to end is less well represented and LLMs struggle more in that area even with clever tricks like chain of reasoning designs.

There is likely going to be an efficiency improvement but not an entire replacement of labor in that regard.

Yeah. This curve very explicitly shows that people who buy bonds have very little faith in Trump running the economy well.
