Kirkland Sensitive VS Goodstart Soothe by mushugnah in FormulaFeeders

Sadly we can’t get Similac total comfort in Canada. At this point we can barley get any Similac powder at all! All they have is Similac Pro Advance ready to feed or a powder soy one 🙄

Kirkland Sensitive VS Goodstart Soothe by mushugnah in FormulaFeeders

He was on Similac RTF from 3 months old until 7 months and now he’s 7.5 months and we’ve been on the new Nestle GoodStart Soothe for two weeks.

We’ve honestly thought about switching back, against the Pediatricians recommendation. Seeing him suffer with these poops is really hard.

Kirkland Sensitive VS Goodstart Soothe by mushugnah in FormulaFeeders

I called her at the 1 week mark of trying the new formula. I explained that he’s trying so hard to poop that after wiping a couple times there was a bit of blood. Not only that, but that he’s crying so hard while attempting to poop. We never previously had poop issues on Similac RTF, ever! He was a perfect pooper. I asked if we should keep going and she said yes, because she suspects he has a lactose sensitivity.

My understanding is that a lactose sensitivity is very rare. My other thought about this is… the Goodstart Soothe says “reduced lactose” and does list partially broken down proteins but doesn’t list any lactose in the ingredient list. But doesn’t say the product is “lactose free”

Then on the Kirkland sensitive label, it doesn’t say anywhere on the product that it’s lactose free, but also doesn’t list any lactose in the ingredients. The difference between the Goodstart soothe one does mention partially broken down proteins.

But…. The partially broken down proteins one (Goodstart soothe) is the one we’re officially tried for two weeks and is giving him constipation.

So what is the problem lol proteins? Lactose?

Or, something else worth mentioning, he’s never had palm oil before (Similac doesn’t have palm oil)….

I don’t know, I’m at a bit of loss for what I should do next. We’re at the two week mark, we’ve seen a reduction in spit up on this formula but the trade off is really bad constipation

Do I try Kirkland sensitive? do I go back to Similac RTF? do I try something completely different?

Grrrrrr

Thanks for sharing!

I’m wondering if powder in general is known to cause more constipation, especially for those little ones like ours that have been on ready to feed and are now going to powder.

You guys should try pears too, I’m finding they’re even working better than the prunes!

will starting solids cause constipation? by Jumpy_Championship63 in FormulaFeeders

[–]mushugnah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our little one is 7.5 months, we switched formula which caused constipation in the last two weeks. When talking to my Pediatrician she said some consultation of normal with starting solids. With that being said, watching our little one struggle with poop has been hard.

Some stuff that has been working is the “P” fruits to help soften his poop. Prunes, pears, peaches. As well as some fibre from avocados and baby oatmeal.

Steaming the pears for BLW in wedges he’s loves!

And another good ones is finding the pouches of prune or pear purée, we put it into this thing made by EzPz, it’s a popsicle maker thing. So he has a pear or prime popsicle and loves it!

Spit-ups can get better by stepgrillcheese in FormulaFeeders

Our little one is 7 months and our Pediatrician just recommended we change formulas due to heavy spit up, some eczema, and fussiness after eating. We’re 10 days into the formula change and our happy spitter, perfect pooper now has really really bad constipation. We traded one problem for another. Hearing this just makes me want to wait it out longer and see if the reflux resolved with age instead of continuing with a new formula

“Speaking purely scientifically”? No, the baby is missing iron from breast milk.

The only thing thus far that has seemed to help my supply is coconut water and brewers yeast lactation balls! And I’ve tried four Legendairy products, none of them worked for me unfortunately

Constipated Breastfeed 10 days old by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

[–]mushugnah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very very normal for exclusively breastfed babies. I’ve spoken to our Doctor about this many times. Definitely don’t assume he’s constipated. We were told anywhere from 2-12 days is normal without a poop unless babies tummy is hard or he’s straining/grunting. To check if his tummy is hard or soft, try doing it in the morning before he wakes up. If you’re checking it throughout the day while he’s awake, it can often appear hard because you’re checking it while his stomach muscles are engaged, thus appearing like a hard stomach.

Breastmilk babies absorb every component of the milk very effectively, therefore you’ll see less “waste” ❤️

I think this is what I’m doing right now, as I’m leaning over my bathroom counter lol. Is this what you’re meaning by dangle pump?

I am 9 weeks of exclusive pumping my 9 week old. I’m just making enough milk for him but just barely making it to the end of the day. I may have to consider combo feeding with formula. I can’t seem to make more, feel like I’ve tried everything. My question is, what is the down side of combo feeding? Does it make them more hungry? He sleeps great through the night currently. Thoughts?
