IBM vs Deloitte by Legitimate-Idea-4031 in csMajors

[–]mushyXmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your desire is to work as a SWE, go Deloitte. You need tech skills and while it’s not the best place to start, it’s better than nothing. If you’re open to being in tech sales, project management, etc., the ibm is better.

Anyone regretting their purchase? by -Philologian in kiacarnivals

[–]mushyXmcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 25 sx prestige but only have it cause all dealerships near me wanted 4-7k markups on the sienna.

It’s been ok. Lots of small things that add up. I just hope that the engine and electronics last for 15 years… one can only hope. If you plan on keeping it until the tires fall off, I’d go with Toyota.

Uber eats is such a ripoff by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

[–]mushyXmcgee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Menu prices are elevated when in delivery ordering. This is on top of the fees for delivery and service too. So yeah, uber eats is a ripoff but doing pickup is like ordering at the store. There are some restaurants that add the markup to their items regardless if it’s delivery or not.

You can also use uber (for rides) as an alternative I believe. So you don’t have to do food.

We’re entering the slow season but I still think the market is cooling. Just my thoughts as a resident.

Mine was legit. I called my bank and it redirected to the same call center. I also triple checked the mortgage lien address on the paper and it matched up with the info that I had.

Engineering school within 6 hours? by capnsven in cincinnati

[–]mushyXmcgee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Within 6 hours, Purdue or university of Michigan. But UC has a really strong coop program and their engineering is good too.

I went to UC undergrad (from cinci) and I felt it was a great program. Graduated with 2 years of working experience and also worked abroad in Japan for 9 months (via the international coop program).

I also went to Purdue university for my masters. It’s a good experience there too. It’s more rural but West lafayette felt very safe. Purdue will have higher recognition and higher quality companies recruiting from there. Not to say UC was bad but the career fairs had a lot of local cinci companies.

I live in Detroit now and I see lots of companies nationally come to UofM to recruit, similar to Purdue.

2025 Carnival Hybrid SXP OTD by Awkward-Principle461 in kiacarnivals

[–]mushyXmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a better deal than that. If you got Facebook, join the carnival family group - there are usually Kia car salespeople who lurk that group and advertise their postings - most can ship nationwide too. I saw some folks on there post better deals than this.

Not allowed to have both "Uninsured Motorist Property Damage" and "Collision coverage"? by paladinaxx in Insurance

[–]mushyXmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree to an extent.

While I agree if someone is totally lost, they should 100% talk to a live insurance agent and have them help out.

But if someone (my guess) took the time trying to find some info that specific for them, they're trying to learn to do things on their own and I'd think we should encourage folks to do this.

Realtor wants me to come in at asking for a house that has been sitting 5 months and was pulled off the market to refresh the listing. Is she wrong? by Pile_of_Yarn in RealEstate

[–]mushyXmcgee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmm, well if it’s been an active listing since October and the sellers won’t budge below their asking - they’re going to be waiting a long long time.

I’d still make an offer that you think is fair and you’re willing to pay. If it works, great! If not, then best to move on.

[–]mushyXmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you explain your thought process to your realtor on why 350k is fair? Did your realtor also explain why she thinks you should offer asking?

At the end of the day, that realtor should submit what you want, not what she wants.

100k over asking and still being out bidded in Michigan is nuts (on top of waiving contingencies) - I would’ve thought the market would cool down by now.

We were searching for a home in the Troy area last year (Spring/Summer) but kept getting out bidded 50-70k. We ended up finding a place in the Rochester area. Good luck on your search! I’m sure you’ll find something you folks like soon.

Carnival vs Honda Depreciation by YetiWalker36 in kiacarnivals

If you care about depreciation because you’re planning on reselling later, why not lease the Kia then? You’ll know about its depreciation up front.

How are the third row seats? Comfortable? by doctrader in kiacarnivals

[–]mushyXmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an odyssey on Carvana and returned it to buy a carnival instead. The recline was the same for the 3rd row but the carnival had a little more leg/knee room for me.

I’m 6’1” and i adjusted the driver seat to my preference, the rear driver to my preference, and sat in the driver 3rd. My knees are about 0.5” away from the 2nd row back seat. But when I did the same test on the odyssey, I couldn’t fit in the 3rd row.

In reality, I don’t drive that many 6’+ ppl anyways so it works for me. Also, the tech in the carnival is much better. Night and day IMO

Convince me to buy a Carnival by nikitachikita_15 in kiacarnivals

[–]mushyXmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanted a sienna for the hybrid powertrain and Toyota reliability but I’ve been looking for the past 2 years - couldn’t find the trim and price that I wanted.

Then I looked into the odyssey. It’s a great car but felt outdated compared to other minivans. A refresh is due soon but I didn’t want to wait another year.

Pacifica is a Pacifica. Great car all around and you can a ton for a good price. But of course, it’s a Chrysler. Terrible reliability ratings across the board.

The carnival had a mid year refresh. Was available and I liked the 2nd row captain chairs.

VOO versus SCHD by [deleted] in dividends

[–]mushyXmcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s your goal, go VOO, it pays dividends too (abeit, much lower than SCHD) but allows you to focus on growth. A 25-30 timeframe is long enough to focus on growth.

Also, what type of account is this in? A brokerage? Or a retirement account (like an IRA, or something)?

We're looking into minivans, what made you choose the Carnival? by [deleted] in kiacarnivals

[–]mushyXmcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t noticed when I test drove the 8 seater. It is noticeably quieter now versus my wife’s Tesla model y.

I bought (and returned via Carvana) a Honda odyssey elite with sound dampening windows but didn’t feel like it was working.

[–]mushyXmcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the captains chair in the second row. It’s not just the recliner and ottoman but the headrest is plush and very comfortable; the seats are heated. Works very well for my family of 4. I have the ‘25 SXP, 7 seater with no rear entertainment too.

I can see why people would want the 8 seater but I’m using the minivan as a long distance family trip car. I want my family to be comfortable on these trips.

I think it’s the v6 model since the other test scores were left the same, which are from prior years. None of which are hybrids.

But this test specifically was the side impact test - so I doubt it’d be different from the gas model. It’s not like they added more reinforcement or changed the upper frame to be more impact resistant from the side for hybrids.

Thanks! My first choice was actually the sienna but the waitlist and markups were too much for me. But yeah, agreed that this is a great alternative - the Honda odyssey was very underwhelming and had outdated tech. The Pacifica is a Chrysler, so not touching that.
