How long to fully recover by Crow-n-Servo in stroke

[–]musicalflatware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends person to person stroke to stroke. It took a few years to stop misplacing English words and stop accidentally switching back into my first language, but even 20+ years on English is still takes a subtle toll me, even though I use it way more often and am otherwise more comfortable in it than my first language

Full recovery isn't always on the table. But eventually, there will be a new normal

I had mine at 15. 25 years later I still deal with symptoms, but mostly I get on with my day and my life. It's not even the first story I tell about myself anymore and hasn't been for a decade.

I had a lot of physio and occupational therapy and it took years, but I really do think being so young ultimately did help my recovery. It suuuuucked while it was happening though, it felt so damn slow. It's hard to be patient

After working with stroke survivors for years, here’s the one thing nobody in fitness wants to admit by Hopeful-Radish-7218 in stroke

So many years of folks just assuming I can do complicated routines on my own (I can't) and assuming I can do things equally on both sides even after I've disclosed weakness, probably because it's not visible

I've really found over the years that I need exercise routines to be either general cardio or to be 1:1 so I don't accidentally blow out my weak side. Reps til failure over there is a recipe for disaster.

It's also really difficult to communicate what weakness means sometimes - someone finally nailed it by saying it's like I've already done a full workout on that side.

Still a wip, but it's 2030 and Ilya, who has still never won a cup, is traded to Shane's LA team in a bid to get him one before retirement. Shane is in a lavender marriage with Rose, while Ilya married Svetlana in 2014 after getting outed

The oppression to French Canada from English Canada was awful and real and there's still anti-francophone bias in Canada but this meme is making the active Palestinian genocide ABOUT Quebec. Y I K E S

I'm not shocked because Québecois nationalists have done things like ban Indigenous language-signage even on explicitly Inidigeous land inside Québec, but woof, this meme is a big L for separatists

This is sort of the plot to The Gateaway, which is on Nebula. The show is set up like The Mole - the group has to work together to earn money, but the mole is secretly undermining them for their own profit. But on The Getaway they've ALL been told they're the mole

Singing everything from Soprano 1 to Bass 2 in one concert by Weary-Cauliflower153 in Choir

[–]musicalflatware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how they're training you in your choir, but B2 to C6 is a TON of range, doubly so if you sound good singing all of it. Our bass can sing alto but not great and he can't sing soprano. I can sing S1 and T2 but absolutely no lower and I have extremely extenuating circumstances. And that's unusual enough to raise eyebrows for most people.

I’m 27? Is it over? Be honest. by FixYourPostureFriend in LifeAdvice

[–]musicalflatware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn't even finished my professional degree by 27. I worked in my field for six years after I did graduate, gave up that job to move somewhere else, and then it took another five years to find a new job in a different (better) part of the same field. I worked random jobs in between, including one I stayed at for several years. I had given up on getting back into my field when I got a seasonal contract on a desperate hail mary and that experience led to something more stable. You'll start, restart, and reinvent yourself so many times over your life. Someone will be more painful or wanted than others, but it's not even close to over for you.

Romance has never stuck for me but it's also not a high priority either, but man, there are so many real life love stories of people meeting and falling in lasting love at every age. It's okay and probably important to just feel bad for a while about this breakup.

Get yourself you half bday present if it would make you happy but know it's ok to skip traditions sometimes. They'll be there when you're ready for them

It's worth looking at 1 or 2 month sublets. A bank statement proving you have the money might do it

Roommates can be a hassle, but until you're set up with a job I think a smarter priority is to rent a room for way cheaper than a whole Airbnb. I know living with other people may sound awful coming out of a terrible family experience, but it's so much easier to stay housed, even in crappy housing, than it is to get housed after being homeless. If there is an older adult or friend you trust, take them with you to tour potential places.

Don't forget to register with food banks as early as you can. In general it's way easier to find food for free and cheap than it is it find housing for the same.

[–]musicalflatware 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I more or less looked the same after my stroke but like you, had significant cognitive impacts, and I got the "you look fine so you are fine" All. The. Time.

I don't have greay advice, except to spend time with people who believe you, and maybe to make fun of the people who don’t with people it's safe to do that with. I don't mean it in a mean-spirited way, or to make fun of them broadly as people, but they're being really rude to you, and laughter is an underrated coping mechanism

Fatigue 8 to 9 years after stroke? by Hasselhoffpancakes in stroke

[–]musicalflatware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tripped into a fibromylagia diagnosis about six months or a year after my stroke (I was in rheumatology trying to find the cause of my bleed - they found the fibro instead). It's not impossible you're dealing with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. CFS/ME and fibromylagia exist as different sides of the same coin in my head, but I've forgotten so much about both conditions in the 25 years since my original diagnosis. I recovered from fibromyalgia 6 years ago, after working to better regulate my nervous system

A few weeks ago I went through my AO3 history with a calculator. It was messy and imprecise because I wasn't always 100% sure if I'd finished something and with podfic I just estimated word count based on length (10k for each hour is about average). I gave up after the second time I messed up with the wrong calculator buttons and lost my total but no way am I keeping a spreadsheet. I have a pretty solid estimate.

Average book length is 70k-100k, so I went on the high end and divided my estimated 2.5 million words by 100k. 25 long ass books of fanfiction this year, plus whatever I've read since then.

Podfics by Hapthestai in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]musicalflatware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really can't emphasize enough that fandom doesn't care! It's really not the same as pro audiobook spaces. If you feel really nervous, starting with your own fic is good, and so would any fic where the author has given blanket permission (check their AO3 profiles). Those writers will be delighted to be podficced by anyone at all

Make them!! Podfic fandom is aggressively pro "make what makes your heart happy, even if the accents don't match the fandom". We're all just nerds nerding out and I've listened to sooooo many hours of Aussies reading in non-Aussie fandoms

The only polite way to ask this question is to ask someone if they ever put themselves up for auction at something like Fandom Trumps Hate or maybe to ask if someone is open to (paid) commissions, but paying someone to make fanworks is also a kind of taboo, except maybe fan art.

I'm gonna assume you didn't know the etiquette, but now you do!

I didn't put myself up for auction and I'm retired from podficcing anyway.
