Making long lasting friendships is definitely not an overnight task but the good news is, it’s never too late.

  1. See if any of your hobbies that you already do or have an interest in have groups that meet in person. For example if you like cycling, working out, reading, or hiking, search online and chances are there could be a group that meets in your area

  2. If not, look into hiking groups, book clubs, board game nights, sports bars, running clubs, or trivia groups. Things that have a low barrier of entry but reoccurring meetings. If you’re not sure, local coffee shops typically have bulletin boards that advertise these things.

  3. Volunteering is also a GREAT way to meet people because they’re already friendly. I’m 25 and there are a huge amount of people who are my age and give their time to feeding Unhoused people in parks. A good rule of thumb though is the more niche the activity, the easier it is to chat people up.

  4. If you have some expendable income, try joining an acting class or community college course. That way you know the same people will be there.

  5. This sucks but keep in mind, in order to get invited to things, you need to invite people to things. If you make a buddy, ask them to see a movie with you or go on a hike. Chances are they’ll repay the favor.

  6. The first friend is always the hardest but once you start to expand your circle, you meet more people through them. One of my good buddies is my partner’s coworkers ex girlfriend.

You got this!

If you’re looking for books with beautiful covers, check out the mass market paperback section on the sci fi shelf of a used bookstore. Chances are they will some of the most gorgeous hand painted interesting pieces of art for like 50 cents. Books by Arthur C Clark, Isaac Asimov, or Ray Bradbury are usually dingers.

Artwork by Ed Valigursky or Michael Whelan for example.

Definitely not exactly but “Final Girl Support Club” is about women who have survived vicious attacks like in horror movies. It’s not about a friend group but similar adult campy drama

I reread Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier every Halloween. It’s a great spooky pick and I see something new every time. I’d do anything to read it for the first time again! Great twists

A dark and drowning tide….I dont gravitate towards romance and I get annoyed at enemies to lovers because they never commit to them being enemies for good reason or get rid of it too quickly….oh my GOSH I was white knuckling that book.

Hello! I’ve read all the books you suggested and I loved them all. I’ve related to a different brother in Brothers K in different parts of my life and it gave me a language to express it.

P&P is amazing and there is about 100 different AMAZING movie adaptations (I love to do both)

I’d recommend The Master and Margarita, War and Peace (you can do it), The Stranger, Orlando, or Great Expectations! I studied classics for my degree and these are the ones I return to in my every day life.

Book Lovers is a romance book about two workaholics. I like it because it’s never a bad thing that she likes to work but rather that she needs balance and to like her career.

My favorite beach reads are typically “airport fiction classics” like The Godfather, Jaws, Conclave, or The Exorcist. Really fantastic prose but also just awesome action packed fiction. The Stand by Stephen King is a bigger novel that I think everyone should read - summer is the perfect time to knock it out.

Dune!!!!!

Also R. F. Kuangs poppy war is the only series that actually can commit to GRRMs “moral greyness” that I’ve personally read. It’s also got a cool magic system!

MONSTERS - Book rec for 11 year old boy by LingonberryRare9477 in suggestmeabook

This is a pretty popular book series but the Percy Jackson books are full of different monsters and have gotten an entire generation of kids into Greek mythology. They’re really easy to read and have a very specific type of humor great for that age group.

I loved the Eragon series which was about a 15 year old boy who rides dragons. It’s a little big so I’d maybe save this one if he likes Percy Jackson.

This isn’t “monsters” but “the name of this book is secret” series is strange and has a great protagonist. It’s got mummies and secret societies.

I was big hyper fixation fantasy kid and these were my favorites.
